The best Olympic memory, however, will undoubtedly rest in the mind of Nikos Kaklamanakis. The Greek windsurfer, who won a silver medal in front of his home crowd, was nominated to light the flame at the Opening Ceremonies.
Having achieved everything an athlete could possibly dream of, from Olympic gold in Atlanta to three world titles to bearing the flag at the Sydney Games, the icing on the cake was lighting the flame in Athens.
"The fact that I was the one to light the cauldron gave me enormous pride, but also a great responsibility to win a medal for my country," Nikos said.
But Nikos wasn't the only M2A athlete to stand out in Athens, with Pippa Funnell winning a silver and bronze medal in Equestrian and popular Pole Agata Wrobel capturing a bronze in weightlifting.
