Usain Bolt is aiming for an unprecedented 'triple triple' in Rio and that all begins with the 100m at the 2016 Olympic Games. All you need to know ahead of the event.
When is the 100m final?
Qualifiers: Saturday 13 August
Heats: Saturday 13 August
Semi-finals: Sunday 14 August
Final: Sunday 14 August
Will Usain Bolt win?
There is no doubt that Bolt is the romantic choice and the fan favourite for the event. The legendary Jamaican is aiming for a third-successive gold medal - and indeed what would be a stunning and unprecedented 'triple triple' if he can triumph in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.
However, Bolt has had an injury scare with his hamstring and Justin Gatlin poses a very real threat yet again for usurping him on the biggest stage of all.
What are the odds?
Usain Bolt (JAM) - 8/13
Justin Gatlin (USA) - 6/4
Yohan Blake (JAM) - 8/1
Trayvon Bromell (USA) - 10/1
Andre De Grasse (CAN) - 14/1
Jimmy Vicault (FRA) - 16/1
Marvin Bracy (USA) - 40/1
Nickel Ashmeade (JAM) - 50/1
Femi Ogunode (QAT) - 50/1
James Ellington (GBR) - 60/1
What is the current 100m world record?
Bolt set the current world record of 9.58 seconds at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin after smashing it at the Olympics in Beijing the year before with a time of 9.69 seconds.
What would 'triple triple' mean?
Bolt exclusively told Eurosport earlier in the year that securing an unprecedented Olympic ‘triple triple’ at this summer’s Games in Rio would be his greatest ever achievement.
"I have had a great career so far but I want to keep winning medals,” Bolt told Eurosport.
"As I always say I never focus on any one individual. I respect all my opponents but I know if I am fit and healthy that I will be very hard to beat.
To win the triple triple would be my greatest achievement.
