The quartet of Alex Gregory, Mohamed Sbihi, Constantine Louloudis and George Nash earned GB’s sixth gold medal of the Games, enough to propel them into fourth in the overall table.
Earlier, Glover and Stanning had repeated their London 2012 triumph with a remarkable row.
It had appeared they would romp to victory after opening up a huge advantage in the opening 1500m, but their lead disintegrated in the final quarter as New Zealand threatened a huge upset.
However, they held on to extend their unbeaten five-year run in style.
