The 23-year-old - who starred for England in their recent autumn international series win over New Zealand - "worked out" with the Giants on Thursday, a spokesman for the New York club told Press Association Sport. He is understood to be trying out as a tight end.
Tom Burgess - one of three brothers to play for Russell Crowe's South Sydney Rabbitohs, while a fourth plays for Manly - travelled to the United States earlier this week.
Sam Burgess has recently returned to the Rabbitohs after his ill-fated spell in rugby union which ended in the wake of England's disastrous World Cup campaign.
Tom Burgess - whose twin George is alongside him at Souths - this year signed a one-year extension at the Redfern Oval, keeping him with the club until 2018.
He stands at 196cm tall and weighs in at 120kg, having started his career, like two of his brothers, with the Bradford Bulls.
He has previously spoken of a liking for the NFL, though, saying earlier this year: "I have shown interest in NFL for a while and I'd spoken to a few of my friends about how I'd love to go there (but) somehow it's been turned into I've got a contract out there.
"That's not the case, there's nothing there yet and I've not spoken to anyone. It is something I definitely wouldn't turn my nose up at, I'd look into it but there's nothing there currently."
Former league player Jarryd Hayne recently switched to the NFL and earned himself a deal with the San Francisco 49ers, only to be dropped from their roster last month.
Tom Burgess' agent nor his club were available for comment when contacted by Press Association Sport.
