Danny Cipriani has been remanded in custody after being charged with assault on police following an incident in a Jersey nightclub.
Jersey Police confirmed the 30-year-old had been charged with five offences following an incident at a nightclub in Saint Helier, where his club Gloucester Rugby are on a pre-season tour.
“This morning Daniel Cipriani was charged with common assault, larceny, assault on police, resisting arrest and disorderly on licensed premises,” read the statement.
“He has been remanded in custody until a court appearance at magistrate’s court at 10am tomorrow (Thursday).”
Cipriani, who has 16 caps for England, moved to Gloucester Rugby from Wasps for the 2018-19 season, and the club released a statement regarding the matter.
“Gloucester Rugby are aware of an incident involving Danny Cipriani in the early hours of Wednesday morning following an incident at a St Helier nightclub,” they said.
“He was arrested and has since been charged by police.”
Cipriani won his 16th England cap in the third test against South Africa in June, his first start for the national team since 2008.
He has been warned by England coach Eddie Jones over his conduct following a number of off-field issues during his career, including a training-ground fight with a Wasps team mate and a nightclub incident while playing for Australia's Melbourne Rebels in 2011. Cipriani was also hit by a bus on a night out with Sale team mates in 2013.
Gloucester said they will make a further announcement in due course.
