Rugby-New Australia coach Dave Rennie

PLAYING CAREER

* A powerful, hard-running centre, Rennie played for Upper Hutt in Wellington's club competition.

* Rennie made his Wellington provincial debut in 1986, the same year the team won their third national championship.

* Shoulder injury ended Rennie's playing career at the age of 27 in 1991, having played 59 games for Wellington and one non-cap match for the Cook Islands national side in 1990.

EARLY CAREER

* A school teacher by training, he moved into coaching with his Upper Hutt club.

* Became an assistant coach to former All Blacks captain Graham Mourie at the Wellington provincial side in 1999 before he succeeded his mentor the following year.

* Led Wellington to the national championship title in his first year in charge in 2000.

* Brought into the Wellington Hurricanes coaching setup by Mourie but was overlooked for the head coach's job ahead of the 2003 season, with Colin Cooper named instead.

* Became a resource coach for former All Blacks loose forward Murray Mexted's International Rugby Academy and spent time running a bar in Upper Hutt before he returned to provincial coaching with Manawatu in 2005.

RECOGNITION

* Appointed coach of the New Zealand under-20 Baby Blacks in 2008 and led them to three successive World Cup titles until 2010, when he stepped down.

* Named Waikato Chiefs coach in late 2011 after Ian Foster joined Steve Hansen at the All Blacks.

* Rennie had immediate success, with the Chiefs winning the Super Rugby titles in 2012 and 2013.

* Chiefs made the playoffs every year under Rennie, who said he was keen on getting some overseas coaching experience before possibly having a tilt at the All Blacks job.

* Joined Glasgow Warriors in 2017, succeeding Gregor Townsend.

* Warriors made the semi-finals of Pro14 in his first year in charge but lost the final to Irish side Leinster earlier this year.

* Amid reports he was being sounded out by Rugby Australia, Rennie signed a one-year contract extension with Glasgow in April.

* One of 26 coaches approached by New Zealand Rugby about the vacant All Blacks job, he described it earlier this month as "flattering" and "humbling" but was still considered the front runner for the Wallabies job. (Compiled by Greg Stutchbury; Editing by Paul Tait)
