Lock Paul O'Connell has been cleared to play for Ireland in Saturday's Six Nations match against Scotland at Lansdowne Road after passing a fitness test, the Irish Rugby Football Union said on Thursday..

Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan named 13 of his side earlier this week -- unchanged from the team that beat Wales 31-5 in Dublin last month -- but delayed naming his two locks until the outcome of O'Connell's test.

The 2005 British and Irish Lion, who missed the Wales game with a shoulder injury, will partner Malcolm O'Kelly in a vastly experienced second row, with Donncha O'Callaghan dropping to the bench.

Ireland team: 15-Geordan Murphy; 14-Shane Horgan, 13 Brian O'Driscoll (captain), 12-Gordon D'Arcy, 11-Andrew Trimble; 10-Ronan O'Gara, 9-Peter Stringer; 8-Denis Leamy, 7 David Wallace, 6- Simon Easterby, 5-Paul O'Connell, 4-Malcolm O'Kelly, 3-John Hayes, 2-Jerry Flannery, 1-Marcus Horan.

Replacements: 16-Rory Best, 17-Simon Best, 18-Donncha O'Callaghan, 19-Johnny O'Connor, 20-Eoin Reddan, 21-David Humphreys, 22-Girvan Dempsey.
