Jonny Wilkinson's Toulon caught fire against Oyonnax as they racked up an astonishing 64-10 victory in their Top 14 clash.
Drew Mitchell scored a brace of tries, while Wilkinson, Maxime Mermoz, Rudi Wulf, Matt Giteau, David Smith, Benjamin Noirot and Mathieu Bastareaud also got their names on the scoresheet.
As well as his try, Wilkinson also landed a drop goal and eight conversions in the most one-sided match of the season so far.
Lucas Amorosino scored a consolation try in the second half for the unfortunate visitors, who remained second from bottom in the table.
Toulon's huge win lifts them top ahead of Clermont, who fell to a surprising defeat away at mid-table Bordeaux-Begles.
Clermont looked in control as they led 13-6 following Elvis Vermeulen's try shortly before half-time.
But Bordeaux trimmed the deficit via a penalty just before the break, and then Metuisela Talebula scored two second-half tries as the hosts dominated the second period - the second of those two scores coming in the penultimate minute to deny Clermont even the dignity of a losing bonus point.
Montpellier had beaten Stade Francais 19-10 on Friday night, and Castres missed a chance to leapfrog both as they lost 25-15 at Racing Metro.
That result puts Racing Metro sixth, three points behind fifth-placed Castres.
Brive cruised to a 31-6 win over Grenoble, while in the day's other mid-table clash Toulouse face Perpignan later on Saturday night.
Bottom club Biarritz play Bayonne on Sunday.
