Alipov out of trap first to claim gold
Russia's Alexei Alipov won the gold medal in the men's trap shooting competition on Sunday with a near-flawless performance in six rounds of competition.
The 29-year-old Alipov, who was ninth at the 2000 Olympics, scored 149 out of a possible 150, including a perfect 25 for 25 in the six-man final round. He was also flawless on four of the five rounds of qualifying on Saturday and Sunday morning.
Giovanni Pellielo of Italy won the silver medal and Australia's Adam Vella the bronze.
Defending champion Michael Diamond of Australia was knocked in the qualifying round despite the support of a big following of Australian fans. Diamond won gold in both 1996 and 2000. He was eighth in qualifying. The top six made the finals.
