O'Sullivan went into the match against Taylor under pressure to perform following his .
But the Rocket turned on the style in a demonstration at the K2 Leisure Centre, brushing aside Taylor.
A scrappy first frame ultimately went Ronnie's way, before a huge break of 135 in the second frame cemented his dominance.
Taylor had his chance to get back into the match in a topsy-turvy third frame that O'Sullivan won 55-43.
And that was the last opoortunity that Taylor had, as O'Sullivan delighted the crowd with a flawless 147 to finish off the match and secure a last-32 match with Matthew Stevens, who beat Jimmy White 4-0.
This was O'Sullivan at his breathtakingly-nonchalant best, with a shot time of just 14.6 seconds illustrating his mood.
But talking to Eurosport after the match, O'Sullivan offered sympathy to his opponent:
I felt sorry for Allan out there, because you could see he was struggling - he's a much better player than that. I think the conditions and being out on the TV table got to him a bit.
And when asked about the 147, he added:
I did think about it from the first red, because I thought 'I've got to try and do something from this match, to get myself excited'. From about 40-odd I was in bits, I was twitching all over the place. My back arm was like a bit of fish, you know, flapping all over the gaff. It was nice to put on a break like this for a Eurosport event.
But three-times world champion and world number one Mark Selby is out after suffering a surprise 4-3 defeat to world number 42 Ben Woollaston, who produced a lovely 51 to cancel out Selby's opening knock of 60 in the deciding frame.
John Higgins produced some of his very best stuff in a 4-1 win over 1995 World Championship finalist Nigel Bond that included runs of 65, 93 and 61.
While world champion Mark Williams is also through to the last 32 following a 4-0 win over Alexander Ursenbacher as the Welshman contributed 59 and 60 in a emphatic victory.
Judd Trump produced his very best form in a 4-3 win over 21-year-old Chinese player Zhao Xintong.
Trump made 90 in the third frame, but fell 3-1 behind to an inspired opponent producing runs of 55 and 84.
But the 2011 UK champion went up several gears as breaks of 126, 108 and 109 saw him sweep the legs from his young opponent.
He will face Jack Lisowski in the last 32.
In other results on Wednesday, Neil Robertson drubbed Oliver Lines 4-0 while there were wins for Alan McManus, Mark Davis and Ryan Day.
