It was a bizarre, low quality match that Trump could have lost, but you simply won't beat this man over this distance if you keep spurning chances. Trump will be back for finals day tomorrow, with the chance to clinch a hat-trick of Gibraltar Open titles and a nice bag of 150 large for finishing top of the European Series table. Sanderson Lam is left to rue what might have been tonight.

It's red-pink-red-green for Trump; he misses the final red but Lam turns it in and accepts defeat.

There's 59 left out there so plenty for Lam to work with, but he's struggling. He just about chokes one red into the bottom right, but can't bring any of the remaining reds into play when potting the blue. Trump's long game has deserted him though, and he just can't put this one away at the moment. He might now though; Lam has just sat one up over the bottom left.

You can tell Trump wants this done now, as he's focusing hard on what's an awkward break, but he's missed a red to the bottom left on 36. Lam can't drain one into the same pocket though, and was that his last shot? No! Trump misses a red with the rest when replying, and Lam is still in this!

What has Lam got left? He bullets in a superb long red at the start of the fifth but can only make seven, before missing a wild attempt at another long one that leaves a cut on for Trump. It's a difficult table with the black out of commission for the moment, but there's plenty of reds in the open and a chance to build a commanding lead.

A double kiss leaves the blue on for Trump, who pots that and the pink to move within one of victory. In an alternate universe Lam is already in the bar, explaining to an enraptured throng how he took down Judd Trump 4-0; in the real world, he's some golden chances slip through his fingers and is now on the brink.

Trump clears up to the last red, and moves it into potting position long to the yellow pocket. That's another superb shot, and the pot is even better; he then fashions perfect position on the yellow soon after and this one looks done. Trump does miss the blue though, and Lam needs only one snooker.

Lam makes 30 before overcutting a thin red to bottom right when using the full set of extensions. That could be costly, as it's hanging over the pocket. Trump can't capitalise though, and Lam fashions another chance when he booms in a red to the bottom right to land on the pink. Some deft potting thereafter opens up a real chance, but he then misses a shocker of a black off its spot to leave Trump in. My oh my, that could be big. There's only one awkward red left, over towards the right rail, that might bail Lam out here.

There's a fault with the black ball we hear - chipped or scratched, you assume - and it has been replaced. So, what next? The good news for Lam is that he's getting plenty of chances; the bad news is he's 2-1 down and Trump will surely take flight at some point. It's Trump that drains the first red, and then picks up four from a foul, but after missing a red to left middle he's left Lam in again. Surely he has to register something hefty here; it's 12 and counting so far.

Trump has the first potting chance, and misses a long effort to the bottom left without leaving it. Lam can't quite get the pace right on his safety shots, and you sense Trump is pulling rank in that regard. A chance falls to Lam though, a tough cut to the bottom left, and he misses it. A few shots later, he serves up a long cut to the yellow pocket. Trump clips it in, just about avoids going in-off in the bottom right and, implausibly, he leads!

Now then! Trump leaves a shot on the yellow to the bottom left from distance, and Lam strokes it in. Calm as you like, he mops up the remaining balls and we're going to a respotted black that could be pivotal in the story of this match!

Trump cleans up the remaining reds and a black off the last one puts him 27 ahead with the colours remaining. He's got a shot on the yellow too, which is close but rattles out of the jaws of the green pocket. Lam can still tie and force a respotted black, but he's really under it here.

This might be a turning point; Lam misses a cut on a pink to left middle, and although he doesn't leave anything he's opened up the reds. His break is over on 36, and he's had some amount of open looks in these three frames so far. Lam tags in the next red but makes a hash of his attempted snooker behind the brown thereafter. He's not punishing Trump, who then clatters in a superb long red to the bottom left followed by a tough cut on the black. Another superb shot from Trump, potting a red with heavy side around the pack, has really opened this one up for him.

Lam ships four after shorting a one-cushion escape to rest on the pack, before his eventual escape leaves Trump a red to bottom right. The reigning Gibraltar Open champion is not quite on it yet though, making just eight before missing a wild long red to the bottom right. Lam is in, and quickly ahead in the frame; a nice stun shot to pot a red opens the pack at the same time, and he's on the black.

Trump clips the yellow in and gains control in the safety exchange. He makes some valiant efforts, and is forced to pot the green at one point, before Lam snicks a thin brown into the green pocket to end the argument.

The final red along the top rail and into the green pocket is frame ball...and Lam drops it in! He lays a snooker thereafter and Trump now needs one of his own if he's going to pinch another one.

Trump isn't quite on it here, and he keeps handing chances to Lam; he's missed a red into the bottom right as he opened the pack in the same breath, and Lam has a load to go at. From a great chance he can only make 28, but is soon back in with a great red along the bottom rail. Can he convert it from here?

Both players miss long reds at the start of the second frame, before Trump drains one but can't locate position. His safety to baulk thereafter is sloppy though, and he's left a red on to the right middle again. Lam plugs it and he's on the black, with another chance to rack up a heavy visit. He soon misses a shocker of a black to the bottom right though, which was even more routine than the green in frame one, and he's served it up for Trump.

If you come at the king and all that. Trump dishes, making two round the table trips after potting yellow and green look absurdly easy, and he's nicked a frame that looked beyond him. What a sensational steal!

Trump doesn't have much of a margin to work with, however that changes quickly as he banks 22 and then lays a snooker on the final two reds that draws a four point foul. Red-blue follows from Trump before an exchange of snookers on the final red follows. Lam escapes from one but leaves the red over the middle; everything is in the open and the frame is at Trump's mercy.

If Lam can compose himself here this is a great chance. It's looking good; he's middling reds into pockets and the pink and black are available into all neighbouring pockets. Lam's break is at 44 and he's almost there, before he misses the green badly to its own pocket to let Trump in. There's 67 still out there. A dish looks impossible given the position of the reds, but he can get right back into this.

A shocker of a break from Trump leaves an easy red to right middle for Lam. That goes, as does the blue, but a wild thrash at a red to bottom left is way off target. Trump hasn't been left anything, but already this table looks dangerous and whoever gets in next will have a great chance. It's Lam; a poor safety from Trump leaves a mid-range starter, and with the black soon back on its spot he should make hay. A poor positional shot however necessitates a long red to the yellow pocket that misses, though Trump can't capitalise; he's missed a mid range-red to follow, before Lam immediately fails to convert one with the rest. It's scrappy so far and now Trump, after potting a red, fails to connect when swerving at the pink over the green pocket to give away six and position!

Boys, the baize; baize, the boys. Let's get to it.

Stuart Bingham struggled out there tonight, but not nearly as much as Jimmy White. Eventually, Bingham got his game together just enough to cobble together the necessary points to win the match; he'll need to play so much better than that however if he's to have a sniff of winning the title tomorrow.

White's so cheesed off with his performance that he's decided to have a yahoo at everything. After losing position on early, he clatters in a stunning red with the rest to keep his break going. He then misses a black off its spot though, and he is furious. Bingham steps in, plugs a few more and White concedes.

A trip into the pack by Bingham sees the white stick slightly, leaving a tough cut on the black to bottom left while hampered by another red. He jabs it in superbly though, opening up a few more reds as he does so, and it looks curtains for the Wind from here. As I type that however, he's missed a cut on the black by a huge margin, and he's left a chance for White! There are still six reds out there.

A good safety from Bingham forces a mistake from White, who leaves a red on to the bottom left. Bingham drains it, blue-red follows but he can't cut in a tough black and his break is nixed on seven. He's soon back in though with the shot of the match so far, cutting in a thin red to the bottom right and sending the white into other reds to hold for the black. This is a good chance for frame and match.

It's 60 in total for Bingham, banking him the frame when White shows no interest in pursuing it needing three snookers.

They're not all going in clean, and position isn't perfect, but Bingham's getting it done. The pink brings up his half-century and frame ball red follows; barring snookers he'll be one frame from victory shortly.

White glides in another long red but, again, fails to locate position on a colour. It's a slog for him tonight and no mistake. There goes a fifth, can he develop this chance? No, because after potting the green with the rest he's got a tough long cut on his next red and it's not even close. Bingham can only pick off a single red in response though, and on we go; the safety that follows is quality though and it forces a big error from White, catching multiple reds in an effort to get back to baulk. This is a big chance for Bingham, and he sets about taking it.

The Wind is in all sorts of bother at the start of the fourth, but rolls back the years to pot his way out of trouble and hose down a long red from baulk. Shot, sir! Position doesn't follow but he gets it after another long red lands him nicely on the blue. That goes, but he then misses a virtually straight mid-range red to the bottom left! White is furious with himself, as he's left the frame on, only for Bingham to miscue wildly and miss an even easier red. Bless this mess!

A break of 65 in total moves Bingham into the lead.

The half-century quickly follows, and after a horror show of an opening frame Ball Run is hitting his stride now. His break has now reached 58 and he's home and hosed in this one.

A prolonged bout of safety comes to an end when Bingham drains a red across the table and into the left middle, before landing on the blue. It's a taxing break early on with the pink and black away from their spots, but he's freed up the space to drop on them now as he moves his break on to 27 and counting.

It's a couple of solitary reds for White at the start of the third, and he's really struggling to get going here. He takes red-brown soon after but loses position within the pack, and it's end of break.

It's 1-1, and it's not been pretty so far; these two have split a pair of protracted, error-strewn frames. Bingham's just cobbled together the first meaningful break of the night to pull level though, will that kickstart things?

No one sorts out best-of-sevens like he sorts out best-of-sevens. Trump thundered to victory there, and so many players on the tour have sat through the same film as Blackwell just now. Trump will play either Lu Ning or Sandersom Lam later on this evening.

It ends on a half-century; 51 for Trump secures frame and match.

After a red-pink, Blackwell takes a red on down the rail with the rest and leaves it hanging in the jaws of the bottom right. Trump steps in, survives a sloppy positional shot on the black by deftly cutting it back into the bottom right, and he's in. The half ton of points in the frame is quickly on the board, and a little nudge on three reds below the pink to bring them into play has made this a formality.

Blackwell might as well go for it now, and is millimetres away from cutting a sensational red into the right middle. Trump responds, draining a jabbed red long into the bottom left, and he's soon buzzing around the black spot again. There's a nice spread to go at, and this looks ominous for Blackwell. Hello though, what's this? Trump misses a black off its spot as he drives the white into the pack, and he's left a chance!

Light work. A black takes Trump to the half-century mark and secures the frame; can he turn this into a ton? There's enough on, but he misses the blue when trying to land on the final red in baulk. Nevertheless, that 72 from Trump has put him one frame from victory.

After the reprieve, more mither for Blackwell. A safety from Trump leaves him welded to the bottom cushion, with no other option than to gamble the lot on a deadweight red to left middle. It doesn't go, and Trump is right in amongst them now. Another 33 are piled on in no time and this frame looks nailed on to go in this visit.

Blackwell could be in bother here in the third. He's just missed a long red after Trump's break off, catching it far too thick and leaving a simple mid-ranger to the bottom left. Sure enough, Trump's off, making light work of what's in the open before driving a straight red into the bottom right and chasing it in with the white. Four, and a reprieve, for Blackwell.

And Trump gets back in, taking the two remaining reds with colours to go past the snookers required stage. Blackwell had a chance there but slipped up and got punished. Trump is six frames from six so far today and is half-way to the third round

A nice cannon off the blue splits the pack and this is now a frame winning chance. One thing he hasn't got is control of the cue ball, which constantly seems to run a little too far, and eventually that means he comes unstuck by missing a brown to the left middle

Judd is far from his fluent best though. He misses a blue to the yellow pocket to leave the door open for Blackwell. Can he drag himself back into the frame? It looks tough from here with both blue and black off their spot

Ah. Blackwell is then left in a spot of bother himself and leaves an opening for Trump, who duly takes a red and is back scoring heavily.

But it all goes drastically wrong as he does go into the pack off a red and the cue ball sticks to a bunch of reds. He does well to find a colour

Alarm bells might be ringing for Simon now as Trump sinks a lovely long red to the right corner, followed by a blue. Three or four reds look well set to he could open a healthy advantage before having to go into the pack

First blood to the defending champ. Blackwell can't afford too many mistakes like that if he's going to win this one.

Trump now gets to the table. It's not easy as three of the remaining reds are tight on the cushions, but he picks off the loose ones to make it snookers required

Ooof. A collectors item. Trump misses a red into the right middle and leaves it for Blackwell to clean up, who then misses a straightforward blue into the same pocket

And the split on the pack doesn't go too well. The break ends at 34 with seven reds still on the table

Neither of these players have lost a frame so far at the tournament, so that record is about to fall. It looks like Trump will maintain his 100% record though. He's picking his way nicely around the loose reds to open up a decent advantage. He needs to split the pack at some point soon

And it's Blackwell who gets the opening chance, potting a red before being left with a reasonably tricky black that rattles the jaws but doesn't go down. The white splits the pack in the process and that leaves Trump with a great chance

Superb from Higgins, who cleans up the remaining colours, up to and including the pink. The Wizard of Wishaw looks in very good touch - a couple of centuries and he's into round three.

And that might be the match as Astley misses a tricky red along the top cushion which rattles in the jaws but refuses to drop. Higgins cannot miss it, and he adds the pink and final red. Snookers required

Excellent long pot to the green pocket from Astley and this match is not all over yet. He's got a terrific chance to pull a frame back here. The brown is relatively tough - but we're thinking quite a long way ahead for that at the moment

We've had two Higgins centuries. How about a third? Well, he under-hits the cue ball on a pot off the black and that means Astley is coming back to the table. 48 the lead with five reds left on

Another opening for Higgins, who makes a somewhat tricky red look very straightforward, landing perfectly on the black. A few shots later and he tries to split the pack off the blue but gets stuck right in the middle. Amazingly, though, there's a fortuitous plant to the left corner. The end could be nigh

Astley misses a tough long red with the rest and it could be damaging. Higgins has leapt at any half chance in this match and he's got another opening here - but the cue ball flies off the side cushion and he loses position, bringing the visit to a swift end

Astley looks a bit folorn now, which is understandable as he's actually played pretty well. He misses two somewhat adventurous long pots, but is fortunate when Higgins fails to sink a tricky red into the green pocket. The Gateshead potter comes back to the table and manages to finally send one down, adding the green and another red to open up a decent chance

Here's how Astley got a bit of a shock earlier when Bingham reached his 147!

A total clearance of 126 in frame one and now a sparkling 112. Higgins moves one frame away from the third round

You bet it is. The Wizard of Wishaw cruises to yet another century. He's looking very sharp.

And the split on the reds is perfect. A half-tricky one to the left middle is sunk perfectly. Another century on the way?

Higgins eventually gets his hand on the table first with a good pot to the right corner, followed by a deft black. The reds aren't too well spread so there's work to do, but he just keeps picking them off. It'll become clearer when the bunch is open, but feels like a frame winning chance

So after all that drama, the arena has settled down. That was the ninth maximum of Bingham's career by the way - and just the second made in the history of the Gibraltar Open. Back to the action on table 1, where both players are embroiled in a lengthy safety battle

Elsewhere, Stuart Bingham has just scored a 147! A huge cheer rips through the arena - and shocks John Astley in doing so!

Game on. The Gateshead potter halves Higgins' advantage with a super 99. He grew in confidence throughout and played some lovely glances, positional shots and pots.

Magnificent. Astley finishes out of position by being straight on the blue, so plan b is to pot the brown and go into the pack, which he could not have played any better. Frame at his mercy

Frame three underway and Astley is in first once again. He's got a few loose reds to pick off and does so nicely, accumulating 21 before a tricky long blue with the rest. The pack is split and this could be his way back into the match

A bit of a safety battle on the green which Higgins eventually wins by sinking it from some distance. Astley isn't coming back to the table this time.

Well he gets one of them as Higgins fails to hit the green, so Astley is being rewarded for not conceded. He lands another really tough snooker behind the blue, but John does well to escape

And at the second attempt, Astley hangs the red over the left middle. Higgins pots, then adds the blue and yellow to go 32 points ahead with 25 left on. Two snookers required and Astley continues

Ah. Oh dear. A complete miscue from Astley, the one us amateurs would be proud of, as the cue ball trickles into the black. Those seven points could be crucial, as Higgins now only needs the red and a high value colour to make it snookers required

Astley pots two of those three remaining reds before playing safe off the final one. He reduces the deficit but you would still say Higgins has the upperhand

Quite some effort by Higgins to manoeuvre his way around the table to 49 before missing a red into the corner. There's only three reds left on the table though and two are tucked up against cushions, as are the black and green, so this is a more than handy lead

But Astley leaves Higgins a half-chance into the left middle and he duly pots. You would imagine there isn't much chance of winning the frame in one visit, but the Wizard is trying his best as he picks off red after red. The black tied up and the pink initially off its spot though, so he can't score heavily to start with

Not quite the speed or fluency to his frame compared to the third, with the focus more on safety than potting. The reds are spread all over the place, as are the colours. Astley picks off one more red, but that's been it in terms of scoring for the last five minutes

A confidence boosting long red to open frame two for Astley, who's probably just happy to be out of his chair. He can only add 17 though after a gentle kiss nudges a red up against the black, meaning he hasn't got a colour to pot

Well that was quite glorious. Higgins races into a 1-0 lead in less than ten minutes with a majestic century, an entire clearance in fact. Astley made a half-error and got punished for it.

Higgins was in excellent touch when he beat David Grace earlier on today and he's looking just as comfortable now. He's stroked home 70 so far and there are just four reds left.

And it's the Wizard of Wishaw who is in first. Astley leaves a red hanging over the left middle, with Higgins potting it thanks to a terrific plant. A few reds are loose and all the colours, bar the pink, are in play. Good early opening

Superb from Trump to reach 62 before missing a tough long red. Three snookers needed, but that is extended when Higginson misses a black. Frame, set and match to Trump. Not at his absolute best, but that final offering was somewhere near it. Round two awaits

This is Trump at somewhere near his best. Given where the reds were when he came to the table, to notch up a half-century break is quite remarkable. You'll barely see a better one in terms of pure potting all season. Four reds left on the table - only one needed for victory

"He has engineered a chance from next to nothing here," says Neal Foulds, and you cannot disagree. That double is followed by a thin and equally terrific black, and now he's picking off the reds at the top end of the table

So Judd, chasing a hat-trick of titles here in Gibraltar, needs one frame for victory. He might be helped a horrendously messy looking frame, wiht eight reds past the blue spot. A bit of nip and tuck so far before Trump pots a quite magnificent double. Door open.

Crikey. Now that fairly simply blue is missed by Higginson after potting the red. Trump duly sinks the last remaining red and crawls over the finish line.

Higginson responds with a really, really good red before playing a handy safety shot that Trump does well to escape from. Andrew is left with a tough red that he takes instead of playing safe, and that will open the door once more for Judd. A very scrappy frame, added to by a missed blue into the middle. Two reds left

Some work to do around the table for Higginson and he's left cursing his luck as the blue hovers over the left but refuses to drop. Trump gets back in, but once more the table isn't sat too nicely - he misses a red with the extended rest

And now the door is well and truly open for Trump again, but he's not at his fluent best, missing a long red to present another chance to Higginson

And that chance comes as Trump leaves Higginson a long pot into the right corner which he manages to sink before nudging up behind the green. Trump's escape is good, but he makes an error with his next shot, leaving another pot on. The problem for both players though is the black is against the side cushion, but the pink it available - only to be missed

So a bit of a mountain to climb now for Andrew. He might get a chance here though as Trump pots a red only for the ball to nestle into the pack, meaning he has to play safe off the blue.

Trump's last tournament was the brilliant win in the Turkish Masters, including a 147 in the final, and it looks like he's got bags of confidence from that. A bit of a kick leaves him with a horrible pink, but he pots that with the extended rest. A break of 73 and a rapid start for Judd

And Trump wins that safety battle as he is the first to find a red to pot. He quickly closes that 29 point deficit and splits the pack perfectly too. He looks set to race into a 2-0 lead

But he runs into trouble and out of position off the blue, so a safety shot is required.

Higginson gets in first in frame two and he's got a chance to make a decent contribution, potting a pink and black before a good red with the rest.

And Judd duly pots his way a break of 69, including a delightful long red into the green pocket. Yes, he got a lucky break right at the start, but he's looking pretty good. Higginson needs one snooker

And following that fluke, Trump hasn't put a foot wrong. He's comfortably built a braek of 40 and there's a few more on offer with five reds still on the table.

The break ends at 20 with a red to the right middle that doesn't go down. "That was a good chance and, quite frankly, he didn't make a lot of it," says Neal Foulds. And in response Trump lands an extraordinary fluke on the pink

First chance to Higginson as Trump misses a long red and the cue ball careers into the yellow pocket. That leaves an opening for the 'Widnes Warrior' and the reds are already well spread.

And it is a superb comeback from Ben Woollaston as he completes a 4-3 win with a break of 61. Ronnie's first visit to Gibraltar is not a happy one as he crashes out in the first round. Woollaston will play Barry Pinches or Peter Lines in round two this afternoon

This is beginning to look terminal for Ronnie. Ben has a lead of 52 thanks to a break of 40. Six reds left on the table

Well this has turned into a nail-biter. Woollaston is unlucky to run out of position before a miss from Ronnie opens the door once more. He surely won't keep getting these chances, so needs to capitalise at some point

A good safety from Ronnie leaves Woollaston with only a testing long red to play on, which rattles the jaws and just stays out. It's left for the Rocket to pot, which he does - only for the cue ball to career up the table and go in-off. Big let off for Ben, who a few shots later sinks a really good long red and has another chance to win it

Ronnie's form has completely disappeared. He misses a green off it's spot after being gifted a free ball when Woollaston missed the reds with a safety shot. Ben's in now and has a chance to win it - but as has been the case all afternoon, he loses position off the black

And then Woollaston nicely pots the other tough red with the rest to make certain. A really tidy break of 48 to win the frame. We're going the distance

A good escape from Ben, though, and then the Rocket pots the cue ball in the left corner. Another big opening once the white is back in the D, and he takes the first two reds with blues before landing nicely on the tough two reds on the side cushion. Potting the first and adding another blue leaves Ronnie needing a snooker

Coulds and shoulds do not win frames though. Woollaston runs out of position and has to play safe off the red. The response from Ronnie is excellent, with cue ball tight on the top cushion and the four remaining reds all behind the baulk line

Another safety battle win for Woollaston as Ronnie feels his only option is a tough pot to the yellow pocket, which he fails to take and leaves a red in doing so. Ben could and should level from here

A bit of a stalemate ensues with the white tipped and tapped around the pack of remaining reds before Ben spots a double to the left middle. Can he level here? He'll have to open the reds up to make it a frame winning opportunity - and fails to do so off the black. End of break.

Woollaston attempts and misses an ambitious red to the yellow pocket and on first glance it looks like he's left nothing. Ronnie pulls a double out of the bag but misses a regulation black to the right corner shortly afterwards.

Ronnie only needs one more frame to reach round two, with the winner of this one facing Peter Lines or Barry Pinches in the next round. It's the Rocket who gets to the table first and he reaches 13 before potting a magnificent three-ball plant on a red. The break ends at 21 when he misses the next red though

A long safety battle follows and it's Ronnie who blinks first, clipping the pink on his way back to baulk. That leaves Woollaston with a chance to get the last couple of reds that he needs and ends with a break of 39. We're heading for a sixth frame.

It's as if Ben is always fighting to find position and it's been that way pretty much all match. He runs through the reds off a red and again he doesn't have any colours to play on. A break of 48 gives him a handy lead and he puts the brown safe. Six reds left on the table

There are still a few handy pots needed though, including going into the reds from the baulk end. He lands on one, just, and squeezes that home, before splitting the pack for a second time, this time off the blue. Again, he's not left with anything simple.

Good start to frame five for Woollaston with some tidy pots, but we've been here before several times already today and he's failed to make it county. The reds are set nicely though and a sizeable contribution looks likely

Ronnie escapes that snooker, and is lucky to cover the pot on the yellow with the brown. Disaster strikes when Ben pots the cue ball and O'Sullivan, who needs up to the green to win the frame, cleans up. He's one frame from victory

Ronnie leaves a half chance for Ben. He takes it, and then adds another good blue to finally find some kind of position. With that yellow on the side cushion, he does have some work to do to win the frame, and he's unable to move it. 27 left on the table, 18 behind. Back in it and an excellent safety leaves the Rocket snookered behind the black

Wow, what a pot that is. Ronnie runs out of position on 59, but brilliantly cues a red into the left middle before playing safe with the next shot, putting the yellow safe in the process. 44 ahead with 59 left on the table

And that miss really does open the door for Ronnie, who starts picking off the loose reds before nicely splitting the pack off the black. Given how quickly he's been scoring, this frame could be over in the next five minutes

Woollaston gets his hands on the table first in frame four, and he's once again playing nicely around the black spot. Dare I say it, he's got another chance at a maximum here, but misses, as Joe Johnson calls it on commentary, 'a sitter' with his third red.

Ronnie misses a pretty tough brown to the right middle after potting another red. It leaves Woollaston with a half-chance, but it's nothing more than that and he can't find the pocket. A couple of safety shots down the line and he leaves an opening for the O'Sullivan, who should be able to claim the opening frame from here

Woollaston is heading back to the table though as Ronnie goes into the pack of six reds off the blue, but catches them a bit too cutely and slides off on the cushion. There's nothing to pot, so he plays safe

The Rocket is in the mood. An error from Woollaston leaves him at the table and he's quickly playing his way around the black spot at the moment. This break has plenty of legs left in it yet

Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of the 2022 Gibraltar Open.

It should be a cracking day of snooker as Ronnie O'Sullivan and Judd Trump both take centre stage.

O'Sullivan is in action from 10:30am UK time against Ben Woollaston, while Judd Trump takes to the baize at 12pm to take on Andrew Higginson.

Prize money distribution in snooker is a subject of much discussion among players, many of whom are unhappy with the present arrangements, writes Eurosport commentator Hendon.

There is a strong argument for a rejigging of the prize money structure lower down the professional side of the sport. However, there are arguments on both sides of this debate.

Trump has won the event for the past two years, and will have high hopes of making it a hat-trick of victories after returning to form at the Welsh Open and Turkish Masters earlier in March.

This is O'Sullivan's first appearance in the event, and victory would secure him the £150,000 series bonus. Higgins tops the standings heading into final event of the series, but it is a tight battle with 11 players in the hunt for the bonus.
