John Higgins completed a 4-2 win over Judd Trump in the UK PTC 4 final at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester - a mini-repeat of the Scottish player's 18-15 win over Trump in last year's World Championship final.

Higgins collected £10,000 and 2,000 ranking points for his success. It was also another win for Higgins against world number one Trump, who he overcame 10-9 in the Shanghai Masters two months ago after trailing 7-2.

Trump pocketed the opening frame with a knock of 102 - his 10th century of the tournament - only for Higgins to restore parity at 1-1 with a run of 97. The next two frames were shared before Higgins snatched a close fifth on the colours to ease 3-2 clear.

He completed the victory with a closing run of 62.

"Judd missed a couple of balls in the final and I played well," said Higgins. "It's always great to win a tournament, especially beating Judd in the final.

"I struggled at times today and won three matches 4-3, the conditions were difficult so I just had to scrap through, but I played better in the final. We've got some big events like the UK Championship and the Masters coming up so it's good to build some confidence."

World number three Higgins is not thinking of overtaking Trump at the top of the rankings this season.

"I've got a lot of points coming off because of the titles I won two years ago, so it's not a realistic goal," he said. "If I can put myself in a good position it will be something to aim for next year."

Earlier in the day, the four-times world champion Higgins emerged triumphant from two final frame battles to reach the semi-final.

The Scot won a battle of former world champions with Steve Davis to reach the quarter-finals before edging out Barry Hawkins by the same 4-3 scoreline to reach the last four.

At 2-1 up, six-times champion Davis was in line to repeat his famous 13-11 second-round upset of Higgins at the 2010 World Championship, their most prominent match in recent years. However, Higgins came back to win and he then edged the Kent cueman in a tight seventh frame.

Current world number one Trump had came through a final-frame decider to beat Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon and he then defeated Mark Joyce 4-2.

Higgins outlasted Anthony Hamilton 4-3 in the semi-finals with Trump seeing off Ding Junhui in the quickfire best-of-seven frames format.

The Players Tour Championship is a series of 10 events, four in the UK and six on the European Tour, with the top 25 on the final Order of Merit going through to the Grand Finals in March. They will be joined by seven players from the Asian PTC Order of Merit. The next event is the European Tour event four, the Bulgarian Open, from November 16-18 in Sofia.
