Murphy charges into final

An 111 break was the perfect start for Murphy and a 73 run from the 2005 world champion saw him surge into a 2-0 lead.

A 59 break from the world number five took him 3-0 ahead with Carter yet to manage double figures in any frame up to that point.

But runs of 45 and 48 give Carter a glimmer of hope entering the interval of the best-of-11 semi-final.

Murphy went 4-1 ahead via a 115 break after a lengthy tactical battle at the start of the fifth frame only for a superb 69 clearance from Carter kept him in contention.

Carter, in just his second world ranking semi-final, was very much alive after a 61 break reduces the arrears to 4-3.

However runs of 76 and 80 saw Murphy complete the victory and he will face either Peter Ebdon or Ryan Day in Sunday's final.
