Ken Doherty and Ding Junhui endured very different matches but both managed to move into the third round of the UK Championships on Sunday.
Doherty eased his way through to the next round with a 9-1 obliteration of Mike Dunn.
After resuming session 7-1 ahead, Doherty did not concede a point as he took the final two frames required for victory.
Top seed Ding secured his berth in the next round after battling past Ryan Day 9-7.
Ding - who only arrived in England on Friday night after winning three gold medals at the Asian Games in Qatar - had to fight hard with the first 14 frames being split evenly.
But the defending champion snuck through for the win scoring century breaks in both frames six and seven.
Ronnie O'Sullivan leads Stephen Maguire by five frames to three, while Graeme Dott looks on course to move into third round leading Robin Hull 7-1 in the matches that will be completed on Monday.
In the later matches, John Higgins holds a 7-1 lead over Stephen Lee, while Peter Ebdon is 6-2 up against Stuart Bingham.
