Ebdon praises Ding

Peter Ebdon praised practice partner Ding Junhui after edging past the young Chinese star and into the last four of the Maplin UK Championship. Although Ebdon is based in Dubai, he prepares for major tournaments at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield,

Ebdon's 9-5 victory on Wednesday ended the defence of the title Ding won last year - his first ever ranking tournament title.
"It's an absolutely massive win for me and this is a tournament that everyone wants to win," the 36-year-old Ebdon told World Snooker.
"I know better than anyone how good Ding is so I'm delighted to have won.
"I realised when he first came over here at the age of 15 how special he was. The first time I saw him play, I said to my manager that he could be the world number one and win many world titles.
"You think you have left the balls safe, but he pots him from anywhere - he plays as if the pockets are two feet wide. He's as good as anyone I've ever seen.
"I expected him to be struggling a bit with fatigue because he did brilliantly to win three gold medals in the Asian Games.
"I'm very pleased because I've worked so hard to prepare for this tournament."
