'Mighty Mouse' Zhang Anda reached the second round of qualifying for the China Open after claiming a 5-2 victory against Northern Ireland's Patrick Wallace in Sheffield on Thursday.

The Chinese 19-year-old - who came within a frame of defeating seven-times world champion Stephen Hendry at the World Championships last year - will face Alfie Burden in the next round on Friday.

Liu Song and Xiao Guodong also booked their places in the second round - with emphatic victories against Noppon Saengkham and Dermot McGlinchey, respectively - on a successful morning for the Chinese entrants.

Twenty-year-old Liam Highfield was the lone Brit to survive the morning session - defeating fellow Englishman Jamie O'Neill 5-2 - but Scotland's James McBain and England's Kyren Wilson are already assured of their place in the second round after being awarded byes.

Liu Chuang made it a perfect day for China's qualifiers in the afternoon session - beating Welshman Jak Jones 5-3 - and former world number three James Wattana secured a place in the second round of qualifying with a 5-2 victory over Justin Astley in the evening.

Paul Davison needed an extra session on Friday to beat fellow Englishman Adam Wicheard 5-3.
