Neil Robertson turns on the style to beat Ronnie O’Sullivan in Hong Kong Masters

A brilliant 143 break in the fifth frame had given O’Sullivan a 3-2 lead in the nine-frame contest.

But Robertson responded by winning four frames on the bounce to win the invitational event 6-3.

The Australian had beaten Mark Selby and Marco Fu to reach the final, while O’Sullivan had beaten John Higgins and Judd Trump.

Robertson’s title is his first since the Riga Masters in June 2016, and the 35-year-old was effusive in his praise for the event in his triumphant interview after the match.

“I played in world finals, UK finals, Master finals, but nothing compares to the atmosphere tonight,” said Robertson. "The crowd has been wonderful all week.

"I had to play against two crowd favourites in Marco Fu and Ronnie O’Sullivan, but this crowd is warm to when the other guy plays good snooker, too. It’s nice to play so well in such a wonderful tournament and especially with this kind of set-up tonight.”

As an invitational the Hong Kong Masters does not count as a ranking event.
