World number 18 Ryan Day secured safe passage through to the last 16 of the Gibraltar Open after beating Xu Si, Oliver Brown and Martin O’Donnell.
The Welshman came through three matches on Saturday, beating Xu Si 4-2 then recording a 4-1 victory over amateur Oliver Brown before brushing aside Martin O’Donnell by the same scoreline, finishing with a break of 107.
On Sunday, Day will meet Fang Xiongman, who came through the late match 4-3 against Brandon Sargeant, for a place in the quarter-finals, with the tournament then played to a finish at the Tercentenary Sports Hall.
Jimmy White, though, failed to progress after losing to O’Donnell 4-2 in the second round.
Elsewhere, England’s Joe Perry, the world number 22, beat Adam Duffy, Anthony Hamilton and then Michael Wild to book his place in the fourth round against Jack Lisowski, who needed a snooker in the deciding frame to see off Iranian Soheil Vahedi in the third round.
Scotland’s Scott Donaldson will play Alfie Burden and there will be an all-China clash between Tian Pengfei and Zhang Yong.
