Scottish Open semi-final between Wilson and Thepchaiya interrupted by blast of music

Thanks for joining us

We will be back at 12:45pm on Sunday for the final with Joe O'Connor doing battle with Gary Wilson. Both chasing their first ranking trophy. Could be an epic match in Edinburgh.

Robertson 3-6 O'Connor

"You have to give Joe credit," said Robertson. "It was just one of those matches where not everything will go your way. He hung in there, fought really well and played the match of his life in a semi-final. Every credit to him, he played a fantastic match."

Robertson 3-6 O'Connor

"I'm absolutely speechless," said O'Connor, who will chase his first ranking title on Sunday. "In practice, I haven't been flying. I don't whether I'm flying or just being clinical."

Robertson 3-5 O'Connor (0-71)

Well, that sums it up. Thin cut on a red. And it hits the mark. Sensational shot. And of course he isn't going to miss match-ball red. Robertson coming up against a player on fire. He will face Gary Wilson in the final on Sunday. Staggering level of quality. A 71 break to finish. Robbo with warm congratulations.

Robertson 3-5 O'Connor (0-59)

Well, reaches 59 with some wonderful level of potting. Fails to open reds off blue. Looks like that is only way to drag him away from the table at the moment. On the cusp of the final.

Robertson 3-5 O'Connor (0-39)

Robertson breaks off and is forced to take a prolonged seat with O'Connor quickly sliding in another devilish long red. This is Joe Almighty at the mo. Tremendous ball striking. Doesn't look like missing. Robertson has thrown the kitchen sink at it tonight, but has been cut adrift by an inspired opponent.

Robertson 3-4 O'Connor (44-67)

In goes the pink finally after Robertson almost sneaked white in behind black. Would have been a superb snooker, but not quite there and O'Connor does the necessary. Not sure how we have reached this juncture, but a 5-3 lead for Joe. Robbo takes a breather. He needs to win final three frames.

Robertson 3-4 O'Connor (44-61)

Pressure is really beginning to mount out there. Robertson on black. Attempts to power it in at pace, but the object ball rattles the jaws. O'Connor has really placed him under it tonight. In goes the brown and the blue he needs for another frame against the head. Unless there is a snooker, O'Connor will lead 5-3 and that looks difficult with black on top cush.

Robertson 3-4 O'Connor (35-47)

No winning cameo this time by O'Connor as a cut on red to middle doesn't find the target. Could have opted for safety, but went for it. Robertson cans red, but white flies straight down opposite pocket. O'Connor then misses from distance. All going on out there at moment. The upshot sees Robbo return to the baize with chance to draw level.

Robertson 3-4 O'Connor (24-19)

Awkward cueing for Robertson as a pink to middle stays on table and O'Connor is right back at it with punched red to left centre disappearing down the hole. No sign of any retreat from the outsider.

Robertson 3-4 O'Connor (24-16)

Robertson must be wondering what he needs to do to shake off O'Connor tonight. Buries a long red and he is up and running again. Cracks a blue into a centre pocket and opens up reds. Would fancy himself to make a few here as he bids to restore parity at 4-4. His opponent isn't here for the beer, so to speak.

Robertson 3-3 O'Connor (60-61)

Bit of a collector's item as Robbo doesn't embark upon another century. Break of 60 as red to yellow bag stays up. Wasn't easy. Can O'Connor somehow steel himself to make the counter punch. Final red is nailed to the baulk cushion. And he slams in red along cushion before thumping home blue to a top pocket. Brilliant play as he slots yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black from nowhere. That is a stunning break of 47. Had no right to make it, but wins frame by a point. He leads 4-3. Unbelievable snooker.

Robertson 3-3 O'Connor (28-14)

Joe with another chance to get his nose in front in the seventh frame, but a tough white ball on side cush does for him. Doesn't get potting angle right and Robbo has been handed a golden chance to get hand on table and start scoring.

Robertson 3-2 O'Connor (4-137)

This semi-final really taking on some meaning here as O'Connor hits back to 137 to restore parity at 3-3. Robertson misses a red early on and the response comes in the form of a total clearance. Four centuries in total with both players warming to the occasion.

Robertson 3-2 O'Connor (4-94)

Anything you can do, I can do just as well. O'Connor producing his highest break of the session to level us up at 3-3. Has really got his teeth into this match and is not letting Robertson ride off into the sunset. Some lovely constructed positional shots by Joe, who is really bringing his A game to this match.

Robertson 3-2 O'Connor (4-14)

A protracted bout of tactical play ends with O'Connor being given an opportunity to assemble some points. Vital that he really presses home a meaningful break.

Robertson 2-2 O'Connor (116-12)

A thrilling century break from the Melbourne man. He's made three centuries tonight and counting. He is 3-2 clear and is hitting the ball so well. Took his time to work out that break and got his rewards. Very creative snooker.

Robertson 2-2 O'Connor (57-12)

This has been a break-building master class by Robbo. Happy to wait for the right moment to split pack and when the big shot came, he was not found wanting. Plenty of reds cleared out in open play for a frame-winning run to the line.

Robertson 2-2 O'Connor (9-12)

Sublime cut on a red from Robertson to left centre in response after O'Connor breaks down on 12. The Aussie has missed only one pot so far tonight. Incredible he is level at 2-2 when you consider that stat.

Robertson 2-2 O'Connor (0-12)

A cracking long red from O'Connor to get the fifth frame started. Down a side rail and didn't touch the sides. Get impression Joe isn't going to disappear quietly into the Edinburgh night.

Robertson 1-2 O'Connor (128-4)

A quite sublime break of 127 from Robertson and he is level at 2-2. Looks like he is going to score at close range, but getting the chances is more difficult. 15 minutes for a cuppa.

Robertson 1-2 O'Connor (67-4)

Robertson will finish off this mini-session back in stroke and has chance of a second century of the evening too. O'Connor will be pleased to stay in touch with the in-form Aussie.

Robertson 1-2 O'Connor (46-4)

Much more like it from Robertson at this visit. Break reaches 44 with a few more to come. Edinburgh crowd enjoying their Saturday night trip to the snooker.

Robertson 1-2 O'Connor (15-4)

Robertson being forced to show patience here. Would dearly love to bring matters level at the mid-session break after losing the fluency of the big 137 break from the opening frame. Chance of an easy opening red to get moving.

Robertson 1-2 O'Connor (14-10)

So they have agreed on a re-rack in this fourth frame. 17 minutes of pointless snooker and they both agreed it is better having another go. Big round of applause from the fans for that.

Robertson 1-2 O'Connor (10-10)

So many reds congregating around top left hand pocket. Over 10 minutes since a ball has been potted and that is hardly bad news for O'Connor, who won't argue with a scrappy frame to keep the Aussie out of stroke.

Robertson 1-2 O'Connor (6-6)

Robertson missing a mid-range red and the black has gone safe. Could be a tough old frame this one to win. O'Connor has certainly got himself into this semi-final.

Robertson 1-1 O'Connor (42-73)

Well then. Robertson started like a house on fire, but O'Connor has doused the flames here so far. Brilliant pots on yellow and green and he clears up to the pink for a 2-1 lead. One more frame before mid-session interval, but the outsider has the early advantage.

Robertson 1-1 O'Connor (42-53)

Safety battle on the colours to sort out this frame. O'Connor with a slender lead.

Robertson 1-1 O'Connor (41-53)

The 2010 world champion sees a red to centre pocket elude him. O'Connor back at the baize with three reds left up and he nudges himself ahead on the scoreboard.

Robertson 1-1 O'Connor (7-33)

O'Connor makes a vibrant start to the third frame with a long red disappearing down the hole. Studying his options after reaching 33, but then misses tricky red to right centre. Was up quickly after missing that.

Robertson 1-0 O'Connor (16-74)

Robbo not looking overly impressed in his seat. O'Connor slots red and brown and that will be that for the second frame. The outsider is on the board boosted by that knock of 57. A sound response.

Robertson 1-0 O'Connor (16-69)

Quite a methodical player, but he has taken these balls superbly well so far. Different ways of handling a break. And this one has been dealt with great care and expertise. Break of 57 from O'Connor. He leads by 53 points with a possible 51 left up. Almost over line, but not quite.

Robertson 1-0 O'Connor (16-19)

O'Connor with a long red at outset of the second frame, but can only weigh in with 12 points as Robbo picks out another crunching one of his specials. Nothing doing this time as a white sticks on a red when he tried to develop the pack. And he butchers the safety attempt. Joe rolls in red to middle bag and he is in business here.

Robertson 0-0 O'Connor (137-0)

Total clearance of a 137 from Robertson. That is a quite majestic way to start any snooker match. Never mind a major semi-final. Brilliant from the Aussie. He leads 1-0 in the race to six.

Robertson 0-0 O'Connor (72-0)

What a start this is for Robbo. Just in his element out there. Chance of a century straight off the bat in this second semi-final. No signs of nerves out there.

Robertson 0-0 O'Connor (48-0)

He is known as the Melbourne Potting Machine and you can see why. Even when he doesn't land on a ball perfectly, he still comes up with a solid recovery shot. Has got it all as a snooker player technically.

Robertson 0-0 O'Connor (20-0)

Early chance for Robertson and he immediately thumps a red into a top pocket before slipping in a blue to green bag. That is terrific. Carrying on from where he left off against Mark Selby last night in that 5-2 win.

Robertson 0-0 O'Connor (0-0)

O'Connor has defeated Zhao Xintong, Ding Junhui, Mark Williams and Ricky Walden to reach this stage. So he isn't afraid of toppling a big name or two.

Welcome back to Edinburgh

Boys on baize time imminently with tournament favourite Neil Robertson against Joe O'Connor in the second semi-final. They've met once before in the first round of the 2014 UK Championship with Robertson running out a 6-0 winner. Expect this to be closer tonight.
The winner will face Gary Wilson in Sunday's best-of-17 frame final. Read how Wilson reached his third major ranking final here:

Thanks for joining us

We will be back just before 7pm with the second semi-final from Edinburgh as Neil Robertson and Joe O'Connor do battle for the right to face Wilson in Sunday's final. Should be another absorbing joust.
  • Thepchaiya Un-Nooh [53] 4-6 Gary Wilson [31]
  • Joe O'Connor [50] v Neil Robertson [4]

Un-Nooh 4-6 Wilson

"I'd like to continue playing like that," says Wilson. "I'm old enough and stupid enough to play on instinct a lot more. It was a match of two halves. First half was terrible, but second half I completely played on instinct."

Un-Nooh 4-5 Wilson (24-115)

A 115 break from Wilson. What a way to finish. Magical scoring in the second half of this match. Breaks of 88, 122, 130, 64 and 115 from Wilson to reach the final. His third ranking final.

Un-Nooh 4-5 Wilson (24-82)

Is there going to be another century here? Looks like a third one is on the way to reach the final.

Un-Nooh 4-5 Wilson (24-54)

So unfortunate for Thepchaiya, but looks like Wilson is going to put this match to bed here and now. Enough reds in open to see him over the winning line.

Un-Nooh 4-5 Wilson (24-9)

Momentum swinging on the finest of margins out there now. Another resounding long red by Un-Nooh from the Wilson break-off shot, but he miscues using the swan neck rest. Will he get another chance? Groans in the crowd.

Un-Nooh 3-5 Wilson (68-64)

A brilliant pressure clearance by Thep. Had no room for error, but polishes off the balls with a 68 break on black to win frame by four points. Looked all over, but still life in this semi-final yet. Such a composed break when you consider he had been sitting on his seat for the past two frames.

Un-Nooh 3-5 Wilson (22-64)

Well, there we go. 64 but Wilson out of position on red he needs to win frame and can't convert red to left centre. Will there be a twist in this frame as Thep returns to table?

Un-Nooh 3-5 Wilson (0-33)

Wilson is in the zone at the moment. Another magnificent long red hits the target as the Tyneside man makes his move for the final. One final push here. Delightful cut on a blue and he opens up some more reds. Super little shot.

Un-Nooh 3-4 Wilson (0-130)

Back-to-back blistering centuries from Wilson. Not much Thep can do about this. One bad safety shot prompted this scoring brilliance. All or nothing now for Un-Nooh, who needs to win three straight frames to reach final.

Un-Nooh 3-4 Wilson (0-95)

Wilson looking utterly in control of his emotions and cue ball at moment. Could be another century as he moves 5-3 to the good. Delightful spot of break-building in progress.

Un-Nooh 3-4 Wilson (0-22)

Wilson is really starting to get his eye in out there. Another fabulous pick out to slot a tough red as his opening offering. And he gets first go at these balls here in the frame that could take him one from victory. Concerning times for Thepchaiya.

Un-Nooh 3-3 Wilson (6-122)

Wilson showing his class with a brilliant century break. A 122 clearance in around seven-and-a-half minutes for a 4-3 advantage. The early nerves have gone and this is becoming an epic battle between these two men.

Un-Nooh 3-3 Wilson (6-56)

Casual safety shot by Thep early in the frame in failing to get cue ball back to top cush and that could be heavily punished by Wilson, who pots a green and races into the reds at pace off two cushions. Lovely split and that could be the key to a 4-3 lead. Un-Nooh forced to sit and suck this up.

Un-Nooh 2-3 Wilson (85-19)

Wilson goes for broke with a long red. Was worth the risk, but just fails to drop and that is going to see Thep level up at three apiece. This match being keenly fought and difficult to see how the narrative will unfold from here.

Un-Nooh 2-3 Wilson (61-19)

This is a glorious chance to restore parity at 3-3. Break reaches 46 in little or no time. Thep letting his cue arm go and balls hitting leather of pockets with real authority. But he then misses a red to centre pocket on cusp of frame. Wilson can't punish as tricky cut on a red doesn't drop. 42 the lead with possible 59 remaining.

Un-Nooh 2-3 Wilson (5-19)

A thunderous opening red by Wilson and suddenly he is finding some consistency in his stroke. Good time to discover some form when you are appearing in the semi-final of a major event before a packed crowd in Edinburgh. But a tough red to a centre pocket just eludes him as Thep thumps home a long red with pace.

Un-Nooh 2-2 Wilson (0-88)

Chance to revel in a century break. Are we going to witness back-to-back centuries? Wilson devouring these balls like he is settling down to his Christmas dinner. Misses black, but matters little. 88 and he again moves one clear at 3-2.

Un-Nooh 2-2 Wilson (0-54)

Taken these extremely well so far. Showing the class that carried him to the 2019 World Championship semi-finals. Striking the cue ball with real authority. Could be a one-visit hit here.

Un-Nooh 2-2 Wilson (0-15)

Wilson with a highest break of only 45 so far. Would dearly love to join the party ASAP as Thep sees a red to centre hit the jaws. Easy opener for the Newcastle United fan.

Un-Nooh 1-2 Wilson (112-0)

Quite sublime from Thep. Different gravy, really is. And he is down to the final red, but just can't get position on the object ball. A delightful break of 112 and this semi-final is level at 2-2. Much more like it.

Un-Nooh 1-2 Wilson (88-0)

Still on a maximum at the moment as he passes the 50-mark. Trying his hardest to remain on that black. Three nervy frames, but this has been magical from the Thai player. One-visit snooker is a joy to watch. Can he make the 147?

Un-Nooh 1-2 Wilson (41-0)

One more frame before the mid-session break. Thepchaiya with a thumping long red early in the fourth frame and uses the spin to hold for the black. Looking for a trademark response and a big contribution to boost his frame of mind.

Un-Nooh 1-1 Wilson (42-68)

This match littered with so many missed chances. Thep has chance on brown with rest, but can't apply the winning thrust as object ball refuses to drop. Wilson handed a reprieve after missing frame-ball red earlier as he slots brown for a 2-1 lead surely. Far from vintage fare out there, but Wilson won't care as he moves 2-1 clear. Tension definitely taking hold of the situation so far today. Wilson holes pink and the frame is his.

Un-Nooh 1-1 Wilson (26-54)

A timely effort of 35 from Wilson before a tough red to right centre stays out. Well placed with three reds on side cushion. Thepchaiya goes for an audacious red down a side rail at pace. Doesn't drop as Wilson extends lead to 32 points with two reds remaining. But a brilliant safety leaves Wilson in a devilish looking snooker.

Un-Nooh 1-1 Wilson (15-11)

A few sporadic moments of brilliance, but more basic errors are the order of the day as Thep misses brown off the spot and Wilson butcher a tricky cutback red. Pressure telling with both men chasing a first major title this weekend.

Un-Nooh 1-0 Wilson (30-80)

A timely run of 45 from Wilson is good enough to restore parity at 1-1. Thepchaiya had first chance in the second frame, but missed an easy red early in the break. He spurns a very decent chance to apply some pressure, but Wilson will feel better about his lot.

Un-Nooh 1-0 Wilson (30-46)

Great chance for Wilson to strike back immediately in this semi-final, but he breaks down on 34 as a thinnish black refuses to drop. Both men yet to find their form. Wilson back among them with a glorious red down table to a blind green pocket after his opponent opted for a double on a red at pace that was nowhere near the intended can.

Un-Nooh 1-0 Wilson (30-8)

Another lovely long red from Un-Nooh. Needed straight cueing and hits the pocket. Develops a few reds, but then somehow misses a cut on a red seconds later. Nerves still there at moment as Wilson returns to the table.

Un-Nooh 0-0 Wilson (75-23)

Brilliant rapid break from Un-Nooh to put this frame to bed after the Wilson missed brown. Few nerves on show, but the Thai professional is suddenly in stroke with a break of 50 enough to seal the deal. He leads 1-0 in the race to six.

Un-Nooh 0-0 Wilson (40-23)

Two remarkable flukes on reds by Wilson as he wallops white off a side cushion and red drops before a plant somehow makes its way into a bag. But he can't cash in as brown stays up. Bad miss from Wilson. Doesn't look best pleased with that error.

Un-Nooh 0-0 Wilson (21-8)

Stunning long red from Un-Nooh to regain access to table, but reds are still bunched together. They've met twice on the main circuit with the Thai player winning them both, but this is a different business today as they chase a place in the final on Sunday.

Un-Nooh 0-0 Wilson (8-8)

A rousing reception for both players. A packed crowd enjoying the prospect of this meeting. Thepchaiya with a superb break-off shot straight off the bat. Wilson misses the red trying to run safe before Thepchaiya can't slot an easy red. Opportunity passes to the Wallsend man, but he can't tuck home a black off spot seconds later. Early nerves out there.
