Ryan Day hopes to build on his run to the final of snooker’s Malta Cup with further success in the next week's Welsh Open. The 26-year-old Welshman knocked out Matthew Stevens and Peter Ebdon before losing 9-4 to Shaun Murphy at the last hurdle.

Day is now keen to build on his best-ever ranking tournament performance at his home tournament in Newport.
“It was a great week in Malta," Day told World Snooker.
"I was disappointed to lose in the final but that experience will stand me in good stead for the next time.
“A few frames went against me in the first session, otherwise the scoreline could have been very different.
“I had a couple of days off then I was back on the practice table on Wednesday. I feel as if I'm still playing well and I would like to build on Malta with another good run in the Welsh.
"I'm up to 12th in the latest rankings so if I can do well in Newport I can virtually guarantee my top 16 place.”
