Stuart Bingham holds nerve to win dramatic Welsh Open final

Trump came out after the interval, where he trailed 5-3, on the offensive and immediately took the ninth frame to close the gap to one but Bingham bounced right back to make it 6-4.

More aggressive potting from Trump, as his namesake Donald continued to make headlines around the world, saw him reduce the gap again before a dramatic 12th frame.

Both players looked in control in various stages and an incredible red from Trump looked to put him in charge but Bingham found himself back on the table.

There were a couple of tough misses from both players before they became locked in a safety battle.

A mistake from Bingham allowed Trump to double in a red and he then snookered his opponent, hiding the cue ball behind the green which had drifted down the table.

Bingham produced an incredible recovery but Trump doubled the remaining red into the middle pocket and put the cue ball in an even tighter position behind the pink and black.

Bingham fouled on the black and Trump potted the yellow and the green brilliantly before accidentaly snookering himself on the brown. Trump fouled once but after another safety battled he sunk the brown and drew level.

Bingham took frame 13 and after a back and forth 14th frame, in which Trump sank a sensational red, the latter drew level again.

Bingham looked like he would pull ahead again but once again the pair produced excellent safety and escape shots that meant the outcome was not easy to call.

Some excellent shots from Trump saw him take the lead for the first time and move to within one of victory.

Another good red from Trump looked as if it had given him the win but a later red just wouldn't drop for him and Bingham got back onto the table and started potting. Another long red from Trump got him in before another safety match started.

Eventually there was a break when Trump left the brown on and Bingham sensationally sunk the blue, pink and brown to set up a decider.

Both players got long reds early on but it was Bingham who took control, Bingham who kept his cool, and Bingham who triumphed.

Judd Trump won the final frame in the first session of the Welsh Open final but he still trails Stuart Bingham by five frames to three.

Bingham had looked in control having won the opening four frames, including winning the second by just one point, but Trump halved the deficit, including scoring two half-centuries in the sixth.

However, Bingham responded with an 87, the highest break of the match so far, to open up a three-frame lead.

It looked as if he might restore his four-frame advantage but an incredible miss on the pink gave Trump a chance, one which he took after a period of safety shots.
