It beat the previous record set by Mark Selby and Marco Fu in the 2016 semi-finals that ran for 76 minutes and 11 seconds.
World number 25 Wilson – a former taxi driver from Wallsend – will face Mark Selby or Zhao Xintong in the last 16 after grinding out the win over the Belgian 13th seed having come from 7-5 behind earlier on Monday.
“I saw of couple of people leaving during the final frame, I was half embarrassed,” said Wilson, who was 9-8 clear when the players were forced to finish their elongated afternoon session and return in the evening.
“You’ve got to block that out of your mind and get to 10. I’ve got confidence that I can battle hard, but that’s not what I play snooker for.
The longest taxi ride I did was Newcastle to Bradford, that didn’t feel anywhere as long.
The duo returned after Neil Robertson picked off the one frame he needed for a 10-1 win over Michael Georgiou with Brecel restoring parity at 9-9 upon the resumption.
There was also a re-rack at the start of the deciding frame before the balls ran awkward forcing extended bouts of safety play with neither man able to produce a killer blow until a double on the final red by Wilson set up the winning thrust.
After Brecel had resumed 5-4 overnight, he moved 7-5 to the good with breaks of 96 and 70 only for Wilson to win four on the spin boosted by 106, 85 and 55 before the final late drama earned the pair a place in the sport's folklore.
