Gould, the 2016 German Masters winner, got off to the best possible start with a break of 72 and then a score of 96 to take the first two frames.
Selby responded with an 87 break but any thoughts of drawing level were put to bed when Gould produced a career-high break of 142.

That sparked two half-centuries from the world champion as he made it 3-3 and, despite the momentum seemingly being with the man from Leicester, Gould held out and moves through.
He will face Joe Perry on Thursday.
"It's always a big win - he's the comeback king. I felt really good out there all match," Gould said afterwards.
"I'm slowly but surely learning to be a fast starter - sometimes I'm slow out of the blocks,"
Earlier world number seven Neil Robertson beat Ricky Walden 4-2 at the World Grand Prix to set up a second round match against Masters champion Ronnie O'Sullivan.
Robertson, the 2010 world champion, started the game in fine form, notching a century (108) in the first and then 78 in the second.
Walden battled back to win a tight third 68-65 and he took advantage of some mistakes from the Australian to level things up.
