Herzog takes 500m crown in Hamar

European sprint champion Vanessa Herzog stretched her lead at the top of the Speed Skating World Cup standings as she took victory in the 500m in Hamar.
The Austrian finished in 37.612s, narrowly ahead of Russia's Angelina Golikova and Olga Fatkulina.
Herzog, 23, was 0.28s ahead of the second-placed athlete while her compatriot was a further 0.19 seconds behind.
She now has a 101-point lead over Fatkulina with 504 points at the top of the standings.
Meanwhile, America's Brittany Bowe was victorious with a time of 1:55.892 in the ladies 1500m, ahead of Dutch duo Lotte van Beek and Joy Beune, who completed the podium.
It was a Russian one-two in the men's 500m with Pavel Kulizhnikov ahead of teammate Ruslan Murashov, as he finished in 34.786s.
There was another Russian victory in the men's 1500m, as Denis Yuskov took gold in Norway, extending his lead in the World Cup standings.
