Bewley on top
What a night for the young Brit. His first ever final and he wins it at home, a standout moment in his career.
BEWLEY WINS IN CARDIFF
FINAL - Dudek, Bewley Zmarzlik, Madsen
Bewley has done it on home turf!! Zmarzlik claims second with Dudek third and Madsen fourth.
Final draw - Dudek, Bewley, Zmarzlik, Madsen
We've had another lengthy spell of track grading before the riders pick their gates. Dudek goes with red gate, Madsen goes with yellow, Bewley picks blue with Zmarzlik in white.
Semi-final 2 - Holder, Zmarzlik, Madsen, Michelsen
And in the second semi-final it is Madsen and Zmarzlik that joins Dudek and Bewley. What a final.
Semi-final 1 - Bewley, Dudek, Doyle, Lindgren
After a lengthy break, we are finally back on track for the first semi-final! However, we have drama straight away when Doyle touches the tapes, leaving him excluded and just three left.
And we have Dudek and Bewley the first two through to the final.
Semi-final Draw 2 - Holder, Zmarzlik, Madsen, Michelsen
Holder goes with the blue gate, Zmarzlik goes with red, Madsen chooses yellow after a lengthy decision with Michelsen getting white.
Semi-final Draw 1 - Bewley, Dudek, Lindgren, Doyle
Bewley opts for the red gate, Dudek goes with blue, Lindgren goes yellow with Doyle in white
Pause in proceedings
Due to a bit of an outcry over the tracks conditions, track grading before the semi-final's and final will take longer than usual. For those that are only now tuning in, we've had a few riders off their bikes tonight, leading to a high level of re-runs that usual. Doyle has been off three times tonight and was clearly angry with missing out on competing in Heat 19. Let's hope it all goes smoothly now.
The big eight
Those through to the semi-finals are:
- Dan Bewley
- Jack Holder
- Bartosz Zmarzlik
- Patryk Dudek
- Leon Madsen
- Fredrik Lindgren
- Jason Doyle
- Mikkel Michelsen
HEAT 20 - Holder, Michelsen, Thomsen, Flint
As the 20 heats come to an end, the track is really battling these guys. Holder claims the win with Michelsen in second and Flint in third. Thomsen trundle's across the line last.
Who was at fault, Michelsen or Doyle?
HEAT 19 - Przedpelski, Madsen, Doyle, Bewley
Bewley was flying but a crash from Doyle on Lap 3 red-lights this heat and that's Doyle done for the night. This track is proving difficult for these riders.
On the re-run, Bewley had a hiccup on Lap 1 but was still the victor, claiming three wins tonight and through to the semi-final. Madsen in second with Przedpelski in third.
HEAT 18 - Lebedevs, Dudek, Brennan, Fricke
Dudek hits a rut on the second turn but is able to control it! Lebedevs takes the win from the inside, with Fricke in second and Dudek in third. No point from Brennan.
HEAT 17 - Janowski, Lambert, Lindgren, Zmarzlik
A much better heat from Lambert but it's a little too late for him. He claims his first win for the night and a near picture perfect finish from Zmarzlik and Lindgren sees Zmarzlik taking second by the skin of his teeth. Just the one point for Lindgren.
Standings after 16 heats
It's been a hectic evening in Cardiff and we still have seven more heats left! We have five riders on top now, Dudek, Holder, Zmarzlik, Doyle and Bewley. Lindgren, Madsen and Janowski are the final three that make out the top eight. It's tight up top.
HEAT 16 - Lebedevs, Madsen, Flint, Lindgren
Flint is in for Woffinden. Flint and Lebedevs tussle for a position, leaving the former off of his bike and Lebedevs excluded.
On the re-run (how many times have I said that tonight?), Madsen jumps out of the gate, literally, but it was Lindgren that got the advantage on the first turn. This track is getting bouncy but Lindgren held on for a win, Madsen in second with Flint in third.
Tai Woffinden has withdrawn!!
The Brit looks to still be having issues after an injury to his back a few weeks ago. Big blow for Tai and the fans in Cardiff.
HEAT 15 - Fricke, Przedpelski, Zmarzlik, Holder
Red light is on and it's for a first lap tangle with Przedpelski and Zmarzlik. Przedpelski has been excluded as it was after the first corner. Zmarzlik wise put his bike down before Przedpelski's out of control bike could hit him. Just the three return.
On the re-run, Holder storms out n front, leaving Fricke and Zmarzlik to battle for second. In ther end, it was Fricke who got the two points in second. Third for Zmarzlik.
HEAT 14 - Dudek, Bewley, Lambert, Thomsen
Another three points for Dudek puts him a promising position. Thomsen picks up two points but might not see him through. A bad heat from Bewley saw him finish third with Lambert pretty much defeated in fourth.
HEAT 13 - Brennan, Doyle, Michelsen, Janowski
Doyle is down on the first lap, losing control of his bike on the back straight but was he clipped? Michelsen does clip him and is deemed to be at fault, leaving him excluded. Was that a harsh decision? Michelsen definitely thinks so...
On the re-run, Doyle was the one to claim the win and another three points. Janowski slipped past Brennan for second.
Standings after 12 heats
Bewley and Zmarzlik are now tied on top with eight points a piece. We then have five riders on six in Michelsen, Dudek, Holder, Madsen and Doyle. Lindgren rounds out the top eight on 5 points.
Lebedevs and Doyle tangle on Heat 3
The first three heats were chaos, especially with to riders tangling on Heat 3.
HEAT 12 - Bewley, Woffinden, Zmarzlik, Flint
Bewley's 100% record is ruined by Zmarzlik but the Brit still gets two points, leaving him in a promising position for the semi-finals. Woffinden also isn't having a good night in third with sub Leon Flint in fourth.
See the crash that prematurely ended Ellis' night
HEAT 11 - Lambert, Lebedevs, Przedpelski, Michelsen
It doesn't seem to be Lambert's night. He can only get third again but the heat belonged to Michelsen, who kick started his night with a win. Lebedevs gets his first points in second. Przedpelski down in fourth.
HEAT 10 - Doyle, Holder, Lindgren, Dudek
Dudek was able to get out in front from the outside gate, it seems to be a favoured starting position for the wins tonight. Holder tried to charge down Dudek but second was all he could get. Doyle claims just the one point with Lindgren out back, last.
HEAT 9 - Madsen, Fricke, Janowski, Thomsen
Madsen needed this win! Fricke follows him in second with Janowski in third. Thomsen's night goes from bad to worse in fourth.
Standings after eight heats
Bewley is the only man to win both his races, leaving him clear on top. Zmarzlik, Lindgren and Doyle aren't too far away on five points each. The top eight are...
- 1 - Dan Bewley (United Kingdom) 6 pts
- 2 -Bartosz Zmarzlik (Poland) 5 pts
- 3 - Fredrik Lindgren (Sweden) 5 pts
- 4 - Jason Doyle (Australia) 5 pts
- 5 - Jack Holder (Australia) 4 pts
- 6 - Maciej Janowski (Poland) 4 pts
- 7 - Mikkel Michelsen (Denmark) 3 pts
- 8 - Patryk Dudek (Poland) 3 pts
HEAT 8 - Woffinden, Lambert, Doyle, Fricke
Woffinden and Lambert aren't having a night like Bewley. Doyle is able to storm to the win. Woffinden tried to catch Doyle for the win but instead found himself having to fight off Fricke for second. Lambert rides away with nothing.
HEAT 7 - Thomsen, Lindgren, Brennan, Przedpelski
Ellis has opted to not ride for the rest of the night after his crash earlier in the evening. That means the young Brit Tom Brennan is subbed in. Thomsen comes into an issue on the first corner and takes his bike off track. Lindgren was able to fly to the win, with Przedpelski in second and Brennan's first heat giving him a point in third.
HEAT 6 - Michelsen, Zmarzlik, Dudek, Madsen
While the two Dane's battled out front, Zmarzlik was able to sneak in between them to claim second. Michelsen was the victor with his countryman Madsen in third. Dudek will be disappointed with no points.
HEAT 5 - Janowski, Holder, Lebedevs, Bewley
That's two wins on the trot for Bewley, he's looking amazing out their in Cardiff. The crowd are loving this. Janowski was the man behind him with Holder down in third. Lebedevs comes across the line in fourth.
Top eight after four heats
Zmarzlik, Dudek, Holder and Bewley all claimed wins on their first heat. The second-placed men were Janowski, Lindgren, Madsen and Doyle. Still 16 heats to play for.
HEAT 4 - Bewley, Michelsen, Lindgren, Fricke
There's been a lot of heat on Dan Bewley before tonight but he's certainly not letting it get in his head and he storms from the outside gate to take a cracking first win, incredible stuff. Fredrik Lindgren finished second with Max Fricke in third. Mikkel Michelsen was the pointless man.
HEAT 3 - Lebedevs, Zmarzlik, Thomsen, Doyle
First turn crash between Andzejs Lebedevs and Jason Doyle!! However, no-one is deemed at fault and all four riders are allowed to return. Bartosz Zmarzlik stormed to his first win but despite not being on his favoured bike, Doyle was able to take the two points in second, nearly catching Zmarzlik in the last lap. Anders Thomsen took the final point in third.
HEAT 2 - Holder, Madsen, Ellis, Lambert
Adam Ellis is off on Lap 2 with the red lights on. Ellis is already riding with an injured collarbone and it looks to be hampering his evening. He's left excluded with just the three left on the re-run. Leon Madsen charged ahead but Jack Holder is there to slip by and claim his first win of the night. Robert Lambert had to settle with third and one point.
HEAT 1 - Janowski, Dudek, Przedpelski, Woffinden
Patryk Dudek claims the first win of the night with Maciej Janowski following him in second. Tai Woffinden will be disappointed in third, despite coming out of the outside gate. Pawel Przedpelski was the man out back.
