Jonathan Rea finishes top at practice in California

Jonathan Rea finished ahead of a trio of Brits to lead the third session of free practice at the US round of the World Superbikes.

Championship leader Rea was the quickest around Laguna Seca, followed by Ducati's Chaz Davies and Rea's Kawasaki team-mate Tom Skyes.

Rea, who led after Friday's second practice too, clocked a time of 1:23.380 in California, with Davies just .159 behind around the California circuit.

Northern Irishman Rea has a 50-point advantage over Sykes in the championship standings, with Davies currently third.

Eugene Laverty, who is down in 10th in the overall standings, impressed by finishing free practice three in fifth.

The Irishman was sandwiched between the two Italians Marco Melandri and Lorenzo Savadori.
