Sky Brown will have to content herself with an Olympic Games challenge in skateboarding after failing in her bid to double up in surfing.
Brown won a legion of fans when she claimed a bronze medal in the women's park skateboarding aged 13 at the rearranged Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The teenager said after her appearance in the Japanese capital that her aim was to take part in two events in Paris in 2024.
Her place in the skateboarding event, although not assured, would seem certain as she is ranked three in the world.
That allowed her to focus on the World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico.
The 15-year-old came up short on the water, as she was eliminated from her repechage heat to end her hopes of doubling up in France.
"I enjoyed every moment," she said. "It was pretty tough, but I've learned so much. I will keep it with me forever.
"I'm definitely super proud. I made it quite far. I wish I could have gone a little further but that is part of it, sometimes you've got to lose."
Undeterred, Brown will make a fresh challenge for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles..
"I wish I could have done it in Paris, but LA is my home,” Brown said. "I've learned a lot so, yeah, bring it on in LA."
