Guy encouraged by endurance after packed Commonwealth schedule

Guy was one of the busiest swimmers on the England team at the Commonwealth Games, arriving with medal ambitions in seven events.

And the double Olympic silver medallist returns home with four silvers and a bronze and having learned a lot of lessons.

"I came here expecting seven medals but getting the five is a big learning curve for me," he said.

"Four silvers and a bronze isn't bad, though I'd have preferred golds but you live and learn.

"I'm in good shape, I've focussed more on endurance than ever before in my training. I feel so much better mentally. I heard a great quote the other day - training is 90% physical and 10% mental and it flips around when you are racing.

"I know I put the work in during training and I don't want stop trying to do all these multi events."

Hosts Australia were expected to be dominant in the pool but no-one thought they'd win a whooping 73 medals, including 28 golds.

England were the closest team with 24 medals and nine golds but this event comes at the start of the season.

And Guy believes times will get quicker at this summer's European Championships in Glasgow - and predicts results at the next Commonwealth Games in Birmingham will be quite different.

He added: "The Aussies were unstoppable but they've peaked for this and it's still early in our season."
