The British Olympic champion showed why he is hellbent on doubling his gold tally at the event after his success in the 100m breaststroke with an astonishing swim of 26.10sec in heat nine of the 50m breaststroke.
It smashes his own world record of 26.42sec set at the World Championships in Kazan two years ago.

He finished 00.44 ahead of Camerin van der Burgh of South Africa, the second fastest man who won heat eight with a time of 26.54sec.
"Honestly, I wasn't going out there this morning for a world record," said Peaty.
It's 10 o'clock and I'm very happy with that swim. That world record is two years old, so it's due another push on.
It came less than 24 hours after 22-year-old Peaty claimed gold in the 100m breaststroke by finishing more than a second clear with a winning time of 57.47sec, a championship record.

"World records in heats don't win finals," said Van der Burgh. "Now we know what he is capable of, we can go back and plan on going forward."
Peaty is aiming to add to his tally of four World titles in the shorter 50m. He is the Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth champion in 100m breaststroke, and the World and European champion in this event.
He has already won most golds by any British swimmer at the World Aquatics Championships helping Britain claim world gold in the mixed medley relay event two years ago with a world record time of 3:41.71sec.
The semi-finals of the 50m breaststroke are this evening at 5:10pm (approx) with the final on Wednesday night. They are both live on Eurosport.
Peaty said there could be more to come before the final .
That didn't really feel like my best race, so move it on tonight, pick up a few hundredths or tenths and we'll be very happy.
