Tennis news - Feliciano Lopez makes winning start in Antwerp

Feliciano Lopez reached the second round of the European Open in Antwerp with a straight-sets win over Frances Tiafoe.

Spaniard Lopez, the seventh seed, was pushed hard by his American opponent but eventually ran out a 6-4 7-6 (7/5) winner
Canada’s Vasek Pospisil beat Leonardo Mayer of Argentina 6-3 7-5, American MacKenzie McDonald got past Chile’s Nicolas Jarry 6-1 7-6 (10/8) and Czech Jiri Vesely saw off Jaume Munar of Spain 6-4 6-4.
At the Kremlin Cup in Moscow Slovenia’s Aljaz Bedene dropped the first set but battled back to squeeze past Serbia’s Laslo Djere 5-7 6-4 7-6 (7/2).
Czech Lukas Rosol also needed three sets to beat Italian Matteo Berrettini 6-3 4-6 6-4, as did Adrian Mannarino of France in a 3-6 6-4 7-6 (7/4) win over Russia’s Evgeny Karlovskiy.
Denis Kudla of the United States beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 6-2 7-5 at the Stockholm Open.
Sweden’s Elias Ymer joined Kudla in round two with a 4-6 7-5 7-5 win over Maximilian Marterer of Germany.
