GAME, SET AND MATCH! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-4 HURKACZ
It’s all over! Djokovic serves out the contest to 15 after a straight-forward one hour and 21 minutes on court. The Serb picks up just his seventh win of 2022 to reach the Madrid Masters last four for the seventh time in his career.

DJOKOVIC 6-3 5-4 HURKACZ
There’s a rare show of emotion from Hurkacz as he fends off two match points with some huge serving to pose that serve-out question to the world No.1.
DJOKOVIC 6-3 5-3 HURKACZ
With the finish line in sight, Djokovic has his first wobble. He hooks a crosscourt backhand just wide for 15-30 and then comes unstuck via an awful bounce to allow Hurk to make deuce.
The 25-year-old Pole can’t snare a break point though and Djokovic moves to within a game of victory.
DJOKOVIC 6-3 4-3 HURKACZ
Hubi needed more of this. He blitzes through a love hold but the big serve and consistency with his groundstrokes haven’t been up to the standard required to compete with one of the tennis GOATs today. The Pole stays in touch but needs to find something special on the return to somehow prevent what looks like an inevitable straight sets defeat.
DJOKOVIC 6-3 4-2 HURKACZ
Hurkacz blows another backhand long at 15-15 and Djokovic doesn’t look back. He consolidates with aplomb and has the semi finals firmly in his sights.

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-2 HURKACZ
That is poor from Hubi – and it may well be curtains as a result. A couple of avoidable misses once again give Djokovic a leg up he doesn’t need. The Pole saves one of two break points but then lashes another make-able forehand long.
DJOKOVIC 6-3 2-2 HURKACZ
There’s a brief opening for Hurkacz as he wrestles the initiative his way in a lengthy rally at 30-15 but blows a close-range forehand into the net to cough up a 16th unforced error of the match. Djokovic lands a big serve to finish the job and we are all square.
DJOKOVIC 6-3 1-2 HURKACZ
Well played that man! Hurkacz keeps Djoker at arm’s length with some blistering serves to stay in front.
DJOKOVIC 6-3 1-1 HURKACZ
Once again the World No.1 is untroubled on his own serve. Hurkacz is simply not putting him under any pressure via his return game and there’s only going to be one winner if he can’t up the ante soon.

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 0-1 HURKACZ
That’s a big hold. Hurkacz pens with a double fault and is playing catch up throughout a game where you did fear for him. At 30-40 he produces a lovely touch at the net to make deuce before a raking forehand up the line gives him the impetus to go on and snare the scoreboard advantage to kick off Set 2.

SET! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 HURKACZ
No real dramas for the top seed as he takes a one-sided first set in 33 minutes. The biggest concern for Djoker is the intensity of the sun’s glare in his eyes. He buries his head in his t-shirt at one point, but recovers to easily serve it out after successfully challenging a first serve called out.
DJOKOVIC 5-3 HURKACZ
Serve-out question posed. Djokovic has almost looked serene out there up to this point. Will that continue with a bit more pressure as he attempts to close this set out?

DJOKOVIC 5-2 HURKACZ
Simple and efficient. Djokovic barely breaks sweat as he cruises through a quartet of quick-fire points to move within a game of what has so far been a very comfortable set for him.
DJOKOVIC 4-2 HURKACZ
It’s another routine hold for Hurk. He eases through the game to 15 to stay in touch. He’s got his serve flowing but he's struggling to best Djoker when the rallies ensue at present and he’ll need to improve that to have any hope of turning this contest around.
DJOKOVIC 4-1 HURKACZ
Djokovic creaks as Hurkacz makes him play two smashes with defensive lobs. It unsettles the Serb who lashes a forehand way wide for 30-30. The Pole thinks he has a glimmer but Novak slams the door shut with an ace down the T followed by a sizzling forehand winner up the line.
DJOKOVIC 3-1 HURKACZ
Hubi has finally arrived! Boy did he need that. He finds his big serve and motors through a solid hold to get on the board. It’s a tad late and that awful start may yet cost him this opening set.
DJOKOVIC 3-0 HURKACZ
The unforced error count is almost out of control from Hurkacz. He blows a 0-30 lead with a series of avoidable misses. He anxiously glances to his coach as a sixth puts Novak in control before another off the forehand wing allows the Serb to consolidate.

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 2-0 HURKACZ
This is NOT a good start from Hubi. Djoker crunches a forehand up the line to make 0-30 but the No.12 seed hits back with big serving. A double fault coughs up a break point and a loose backhand drifts long to hand the Serb the perfect start.
