Tennis news - Kevin Anderson crushes Kei Nishikori in ATP Finals
Updated 13/11/2018 at 16:53 GMT
South Africa's Kevin Anderson enjoyed a shockingly comfortable win over Kei Nishikori at the ATP Finals, beating Kei Nishikori 6-0, 6-1.
It took him 64 minutes to wrap up the match and virtually ensure a place in the semi-finals.
Anderson took advantage of his opponent's errant serve and hit hard from the baseline throughout, forcing more mistakes.
Until the penultimate game of the second set, it looked like Anderson was going to secure only the second double-bagel in the history of the tournament, after Roger Federer's defeat of Gaston Gaudio in the 2005 semi-finals, but the Japanese finally held serve to save face.
It was the pair's third meeting in less than three weeks, with Anderson winning 6-3, 7-6(3) in the final of the Vienna Open and Nishikori winning 6-4, 6-4 in the Paris Masters round of 16.
Nishikori had enjoyed a surprise win over Federer in his opening group match, beating him 7-6(4), 6-3 on Sunday evening, while Anderson had defeated Dominic Thiem 6-3, 7-6(10) just prior to that.
