Marin Cilic came from a set down to beat John Isner 6-7 6-3 6-4 at the ATP World Tour Finals at London's O2 Arena on Wednesday evening.
The first set was an unsurprisingly dogged affair as the big servers stayed true to form, with a tie break needed to separate them in the opener.
Isner got a couple of breaks to take the set and the second looked as if it might follow the pattern of the first.
However, Cilic broke to go 5-3 ahead and he then served out to force a third set, the first time that has happened so far at this year's finals.
In a stark contrast to what had gone before, kthe first three games of the final set were all breaks, with two coming for Cilic, who would eventually go on to serve out for victory.
The result means that the new season-ending world number one Novak Djokovic, who earlier in the day beat Alex Zverev, is through to the semi-finals.
The final place will come from one of the remaining three players with Djokovic facing Cilic and Zverev playing against Isner on Friday.
