Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro became the first player to qualify for the Australian Open quarter-finals with a 4-6 6-4 8-6 win over Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit.

The 29-year-old’s victory sees her equal her performances in 2009 and 2016, when she also reached the last eight.

Second seed Caroline Wozniacki awaits her the next round.
