SATURDAY'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Dayana Yastremenska (UKR) v 16-Serena WIlliams (USA)
  • 1-Novak Djokovic (SRB) v 25-Denis Shapovalov (CAN)
  • 4-Alexander Zverev (GER) v WC-Alex Bolt (AUS)
  • 4-Naomi Osaka (JPN) v 28-Su-Wei Hsieh (CHN)
  • 1-Simona Halep (ROU) v Venus Williams (USA)

MATCH OF THE DAY

4-Alexander Zverev (GER) v WC-Alex Bolt (AUS)
The only male wild card to win a grand slam singles tournament remains Goran Ivanišević, who was victorious at Wimbledon in 2001. Ranked 159 in the world, Alex Bolt is unlikely to pose too much threat against fourth seed Alexander Zverev, but he will be on home territory and with the German tending to fall apart at a grand slam, this could be an entertaining battle.

POTENTIAL UPSET OF THE DAY

1-Simona Halep (ROU) v Venus Williams (USA)
Top seed Simona Halep would, at the best of times, be a favourite in the draw, but these are not the best of times for the Romanian. Halep went into the tournament having missed the end of last season, thanks to injury, and opening the new season with a loss to to Ashleigh Barty in the round of 16 in Sydney, as well as being without a coach. Halep has dropped a set in both her first and second round matches, looking particularly uncomfortable against Sofia Kenin in her last match. With Venus ending her last match against Alize Cornet in style with a bagel, anything could happen.

BRIT WATCH

It's all over for the Brits in the singles' draws after Konta's defeat on Thursday, but still plenty to see in the doubles. Saturday sees an almost entirely British affair as Jamie Murray takes on compatriots Luke Bambridge and Jonny O'Mara with his partner, Brazilian Bruno Soares. Joe Salisbury is also in action, as is Dominic Inglot.
