Bautista sparked the biggest story of the opening round when he beat Andy Murray in five sets, while his second round clash with John Millman also went all the way to a fifth set. And his fourth-round clash with Cilic also reached a decider.
The sixth-seed Cilic took the opening set in a tie-break, but saw his big-serving style unpicked as Bautista responded in style.
The Spaniard took the second set 6-3 and then picked up the third even more convincingly, winning 6-2.
Cilic bounced back in the fourth to take the tie to a deciding fifth set, but 30-year-old Bautista is in fine form and inched it 6-4 to reach his first ever Grand Slam quarter-final at the 15th-time of asking.

Speaking after his win, Bautista said:
It's taken a lot - a lot of work, a lot of patience, a lot of dedication. I've had to work a lot to get to the quarter-finals this year... I've played a lot of hours, so I'm really happy.
