Tennis news - Jamie Murray loses two doubles encounters within hours at Australian Open

Britain’s Jamie Murray suffered a double blow on Wednesday after losing his mixed doubles quarter-final with Bethanie Mattek-Sands just hours after exiting the men’s doubles with Bruno Soares at the Australian Open.

Murray and Soares fell in straight sets against John Peers and Henri Kontinen in the quarter-final of the men’s doubles.
Peers and Kontinen won 6-3 6-4 to reach the semis, ending Murray and Soares’ bid for a third Grand Slam together.
Third seeds Murray and Soares were champions in Melbourne two years ago, the same year they won the US Open.
Murray then lost his mixed encounter with American Mattek-Sands, losing to Astra Sharma and John-Patrick Smith 6-2 7-6(5).
Meanwhile, the fifth-pair seeding of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut beat Bob and Mike Bryan 6-4 7-6(3) to reach the men’s doubles semis.
American duo Ryan Harrison and Sam Querrey also advanced, beating Lukasz Kubot and Horacio Zeballos 3-6 7-6(5) 6-4.
