Britain, who earned their place back in the group for the first time since 2003 with a 4-1 win over Croatia at Wimbledon last week, have not won a World Group tie since John Lloyd, Jeremy Bates and Colin Dowdeswell defeated Spain in 1986.
Britain will be relying heavily on British number one Andy Murray after the retirement on Tim Henman after the Croatia tie, the Scot being the only member of Lloyd's team ranked inside the top 100.
Argentina, who have three player ranked within the top 20 (Guillermo Canas, Juan Ignacio Chela and Juan Monaco) as well as David Nalbandian ranked at number 22, will have the choice of surface as well as location and are expected to pick their favoured clay.
Murray, who will likely have to play three matches in three days teaming up with older brother Jamie for the doubles, has promised to make himself available for the tie so long as he is fit.
"Except for Roger Federer in Switzerland I've never really played against the best players in the world in Davis Cup," the Scot told the BBC.
"Now I have a chance of winning against them its going to be exciting. I might have to alter my schedule to try and fit Davis Cup in. I'll just have to wait and see what happens, but if I'm feeling 100 percent fit I'm going to play Davis Cup."
Alex Bogdanovic, Jaime Baker and Richard Bloomfield will fight it out for the second singles spot in the team.
The other choice tie in the first round will see Serbia, who are World Group for the first time, travel to two time champions Russia, who have also reached the 2007 final.
The tie raises the likelihood of a mouth-watering clash between world number three, and US Open finalist, Novak Djokovic and world number four Nikolay Davydenko.
