Haas was poisoned

Double specialist Waske told Bild newspaper: "I spoke with a Russian from Moscow at the Davis Cup. He said then completely casually that Haas had been poisoned."

Germany led 2-1 entering the final day but Haas, Germany's top ranked player, was not able to take part in the second singles rubber because of a strong stomach intestine complaints.

Russia went on to win 3-2 and set up a meeting with the United States in the final as Haas' replacement - debutant Philipp Petzschner - lost to Mikhail Youzhny.
