RG 2017 HLTS : Svitolina v Halep

GAME, SET AND MATCH! - PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 3-6 HALEP. Simona digs out the hold to 15 and books her place in Saturday's final after a two hour battle with the big-hitting Pliskova, who misses out on the world No.1 spot. Halep could yet end the week as the top women's player on the planet if she beats world No.47 Jelena Ostapenko.

BREAK! - PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 3-5 HALEP. It looked like Pliskova had some momentum, but Halep pounces on a surprisingly off-colour service game to apply the heat. The Czech saves one of two break points, but lashes long on the second. Halep will now serve for the match....

BREAK! - PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 3-4 HALEP. Where did that come from? Pliskova finds her mojo and demolishes the Halep serve. The Czech gives her opponent a dose of her own medicine, showing great court coverage to stay in at double break point and sweep in to fizz a crosscourt pass inside the line.

PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 2-4 HALEP. Pliskova keeps her hopes alive, crashing down a seventh ace of the match to save break point and make deuce. The Czech bullets a backhand winner down the line but then double faults to keep Halep interested. It isn't to be the double break, however, as a drive volley and a crunching forehand do the final damage.

PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 1-4 HALEP. Simona backs up the break, fighting off double break point with some gutsy tennis. She follows a sublime backhand winner down the line by outlasting Pliskova in a tussle from the baseline. The final is edging closer on the Romanian's horizon now.

What... A... Shot....

BREAK! - PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 1-3 HALEP. Simona makes one of the points of the match as she somehow reaches a shot on the run to flash a crosscourt pass beyond Pliskova. It clinches what could well be a key break. The Romanian's defence against Karolina's power has been hugely impressive.

Simona Halep

PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 1-2 HALEP. Solid work from Halep as she rushes through a hold to 15.

Simona Halep (Roland-Garros 2017)

PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 1-1 HALEP. Pliskova fights back from 0-30 and then unleashes one of the shots of the match when she slams a backhand like an arrow down the line. Halep keeps up the heat but can't convert a BP as the big serve once again proves too much. Pliskova seems to be hitting bigger and bigger and claims a massive hold with a wide ace.

PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 0-1 HALEP. A strong response from Halep as she opens with a confident hold for the loss of one point. It gives her a lift and the bonus of the scoreboard advantage.

PLISKOVA 4-6 6-3 HALEP. It's all square with everything to play for! Pliskova holds firm, crunching a crosscourt forehand beyond Halep to tee up the decider.

Karolina Pliskova (Roland-Garros 2017)

PLISKOVA 4-6 5-3 HALEP. Super stuff from Halep. She staves off set point with a stonking backhand down the line before getting the job done from deuce. Over to Pliskova to try and serve this out and take us into a decider...

PLISKOVA 4-6 5-2 HALEP. Gritty play from Pliskova. She fends off double BP with a second serve kicker and a lovely wide serve-forehand combo. She then finds another big second serve to save a third from deuce and screams with delight as she wriggles off the hook when Halep fires long after a tasty rally. The No.2 seed is one game away from taking this to a decider.

BREAK! - PLISKOVA 4-6 4-2 HALEP. And there it is! Pliskova finally surges into the net with intent and clocks up triple break point. Halep saves one but then drags wide into the tramlines to give her opponent the edge in this second set.

PLISKOVA 4-6 3-2 HALEP. Just what Pliskova needed. She rattles through a love hold. The scoreline is tight and just one big return game could really ignite her belief.

Karolina Pliskova nach ihrem Sieg egegn Cepede

PLISKOVA 4-6 2-2 HALEP. Pliskova just can't apply any pressure. Halep breezes to a hold to 15 as Pliskova continues to struggle to take on the volleys that could make this more uncomfortable for her opponent.

PLISKOVA 4-6 2-1 HALEP. Pliskova thunders down a timely thumping serve to maintain the scoreboard advantage with a hold to 30. The crowd aren't fully engrossed in this one yet. It's not quite caught fire, but could still do so if Pliskova can make some inroads on the Halep serve.

PLISKOVA 4-6 1-1 HALEP. Simona levels, but Karolina will rue a missed chance. At 30-30 she plays the weakest of drop shots into the net after a lung-busting rally. Halep snares the next point with ease and moves level early in the second.

PLISKOVA 4-6 1-0 HALEP. Pliskova still battling to try and swing this match her way. She almost wins this opening game twice over, having to do it from deuce after blowing a 40-15 lead. Halep made it tricky but the power prevailed in the end.

SET! - PLISKOVA 4-6 HALEP. Pliskova saves another set point, but fires wide on Haelp's second (fourth in total) and the Romanian No.3 seed takes the opener in 43 minutes. Pliskova's dream of ending today with a victory that would secure the world No.1 ranking is in trouble.

Worth a watch if you didn't see it earlier.

PLISKOVA 4-5 HALEP. Pliskova saves two set points to pose the serve-out question of Halep. The Czech is still battling but is second best from the baseline, needs the big serve to deliver more regularly and is in trouble if the rallies go beyond six shots... Over to Halep now to try and serve it out.

PLISKOVA 3-5 HALEP. Simona still looking firmly in control as she closes in on the opening set. Pliskova isn't doing enough damage to the Halep serve and doesn't seem like she truly believes she can beat the Romanian on this surface.

PLISKOVA 3-4 HALEP. The big serve is functioning better now and it's giving Pliskova the opportunities to unleash some venomous forehands. She stays the one break behind by keeping a hungry Halep at arm's length.

PLISKOVA 2-4 HALEP. Confident work from Halep. It's a simple hold to 15 as she continues to look the more assured player on clay. She's the heavy favourite to prevail here and from what we've seen so far, she's worthy of that tag.

Karolina Pliskova

PLISKOVA 2-3 HALEP. Pliskova sighs in dismay as she faces another break point, but then picks herself up to unload the big serve at a key moment and scrap her way to the hold.

PLISKOVA 1-3 HALEP. Dogged play from Halep. She battles back from double break point down, making the most of her better court coverage to eventually consolidate with a delightful pass down Pliskova's left wing.

BREAK! - PLISKOVA 1-2 HALEP. A bit of a gift for the Romanian as Pliskova's big service malfunctions with two double faults. Halep probes down both flanks n double break point and forces the error to strike first blood.

Simona Halep

PLISKOVA 1-1 HALEP. Simona working the angles to try and combat the power of her opponent. It works effectively enough to move her level with a hold to 30 of her own. No fireworks yet. The crowd on Chatrier were treated to 'Penko power' in the first semi final. Will this one reach a similar standard?

PLISKOVA 1-0 HALEP. A solid enough hold to 30 for Pliskova to get things up and running.

The warm up is over. Pliskova will serve first....

The winner of this match will meet world No.47, Jelena Ostapenko in Saturday's final.

HEAD-TO-HEAD: This is their sixth meeting. Halep leads the match-up 4-1. The Romanian won the last meeting at the Canadian Masters in 2016.  Pliskova's only triumph was in the Fed Cup for the Czech Republic v Romania last year.
