Henman faces a difficult test in World No. 8 David Nalbandian at 17:00CET on Thursday, while Murray takes on Novak Djokovic around 22:00CET.
"Tim is playing better. When Tim plays on court like he does in practice, he's for sure a top-20 player," Murray said after defeating world No. 3 Ivan Ljubicic in the second round on Wednesday.
"He gives guys problems all the time. It's great that he's playing well again.
Henman has won eight of his last ten matches, beating Spaniards Fernando Verdasco and David Ferrer to move forward in Madrid.
The 32-year-old, who was plagued last season by back problems, is ranked 41st in the world, but made his first final since 2004 two weeks ago in Tokyo, losing to World No. 1 Roger Federer.
"He's not a number 40 player in the world. He's better than that and I'm sure he'll continue in this form and he'll get his ranking back," said Murray, the top-ranked British player at 19th in the world.
