Dan Evans and Jay Clarke both suffered straight-sets defeats in Miami Open qualifying but Evans made the main draw for the competition’s first round after filling a ‘lucky loser’ spot.

The 28-year-old had been deducted a point for hitting a water bottle with his racket as he lost 6-4 6-4 to Alexander Bublik.

In the first round he has been drawn against Tunisia’s Malek Jaziri, who he will play on Thursday.
