Rafael Nadal surrendered just five games in beating Grigor Dimitrov to stay on course for a 12th Monte Carlo Masters title.
The Spaniard came through 6-4 6-1 to set up a quarter-final with Argentine Guido Pella, who beat Marco Cecchinato 6-4 4-6 6-4.
Top seed Novak Djokovic also eased into the last eight with a 6-3 6-0 win over American Taylor Fritz.
The Serb is now three wins away from equalling Rafael Nadal’s record of 33 Masters 1000 titles.
Djokovic will next face 10th seed Daniil Medvedev after the Russian beat Greek rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2 1-6 6-4.
Cameron Norrie’s run came to a halt in a 6-2 7-5 defeat to Lorenzo Sonego, despite being ranked 40 places higher than the Italian qualifier.
The British 23-year-old finally cracked his opponent’s serve as he attempted to see out the match at 5-4, only to hand the break back immediately as Sonego snuck across the line.
