SUNDAY: DAY 8 AT FRENCH OPEN LIVE

Live French Open coverage

Follow our live updates from the 2020 French Open as Rafael Nadal, Simona Halep, Novak Djokovic and others eye glory at Roland Garros.
All the action at Roland Garros - suddenly now an autumn Grand Slam in Paris.

19:20 - Thiem escapes

GASTON 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 3-6 THIEM
Thiem is into a fifth successive Roland Garros quarter final, but he had to work hard to get there! Gaston was fantastic. He's been fantastic all week long, beating Wawrinka and then taking the US Open champion to five sets. Thiem had to keep cool and trust his superior ability and that got him over the line in the end.

18:35 - Going the distance!

GASTON 6-3 THIEM (4-6, 4-6, 7-5)
Incredible! We're going the distance here! Gaston has forced a fifth set. What an inventive, entertaining player the Frenchman is and what an atmosphere it is on Philippe Chatrier! Gaston won a five-setter against Wawrinka in the last round. Can the world number 239 do it again here?

18:05 - Gaston still alive!

GASTON 7-5 THIEM (4-6, 4-6)
He's got it! Gaston takes his fourth set point on the Thiem serve, with the Austrian landing a forehand in the net, and the home crowd inside Philippe Chatrier erupts! They are right behind their countryman! What a fantastic performance this has been. Gaston is so fun to watch!

17:05 - Thiem one set away

GASTON 4-6 THIEM (4-6)
Comfortable for Thiem now as he moves two sets ahead. The Austrian is one set away from a place in the quarter finals. Gaston still has the French crowd behind him, though. Some fantastic shot-making from the underdog. He has incredible imagination and has executed a lot!

16:25 - Thiem a set up

GASTON 4-6 THIEM
The US Open champion takes the first set in 40 minutes. Thiem just cranked things up towards the end of the set, but it must be said Gaston has not looked out of his depth so far. He is sticking with Thiem in the rallies and has shown some nice variety. A very entertaining player to watch.

15:10 - Sinner into the quarters!

ZVEREV 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 SINNER
The Italian is through to the quarter finals on his Roland Garros debut! An incredible performance from Sinner. Zverev was far from his best, but the teenager had too much for the US Open finalist. He secures it with a booming unreturnable forehand and that was such a key shot for him in the match.

15:00 - Svitolina in straight sets

SVITOLINA 6-1, 6-3 GARCIA
A straight sets victory from the number three seed to silence the French crowd inside Philippe Chatrier! Svitolina was very impressive, but it has to be said that Garcia never found her groove. From start to finish, simply too many unforced errors and Svitolina is into the quarter finals!

14:30 - Svitolina in control

SVITOLINA 6-1 GARCIA
A 26-minute opening set and Svitolina takes control of this match in emphatic fashion. Of course, Garcia has come from behind to win at Roland Garros already this year, but Svitolina is playing very well and it's difficult see a route back into this one for Garcia right now.

14:25 - Zverev back in it!

ZVEREV 6-4 SINNER (3-6, 3-6)
Sinner drops his first set of the tournament and Zverev has a foothold in this contest to mount a comeback from! However, that service game didn't come easily either, with Zverev wasting three set points before taking the fourth one. The customary double fault in there as well.

13:35 - Nadal through

KORDA 1-6, 1-6, 2-6 NADAL
A routine victory for Nadal and the King of Clay who moves into the Roland Garros quarter finals. Nadal found the third set a little tricky and the scoreline certainly flattered him. Korda was competitive in most of the games, but Nadal's quality and experience told in the end.

13:25 - Zverev in big trouble!

ZVEREV 3-6 SINNER (3-6)
Zverev loves a five-setter at a Grand Slam, but it's a long way back now for the German. Sinner takes a two sets lead. Zverev has struggled to handle the power of the Italian teenager and has struggled for winners of his own, managing just FIVE in these opening two sets.

12:55 - Sinner takes the first set!

ZVEREV 3-6 SINNER
The Italian teenager takes the first set against the number six seed, taking his third set point after saving break points with an inside out forehand winner. Zverev is very frustrated with himself. His racquet is taking a bit of a beating off the clay.

12:50 - Nadal two up

KORDA 1-6 NADAL (1-6)
Nadal takes a two set lead. The shot of the match so far was in that game, with the Spaniard sending a forehand winner down the line. Nadal had 0-40, couldn't take the first two break points, but takes the third one as Korda sends a forehand beyond the baseline.

12:15 - Nadal up and running

KORDA 1-6 NADAL
Some trouble for Nadal in that service game, but the Spaniard gets the job done and clinches a largely trouble free opening set. The wind is giving Korda problems. Nadal is dealing with the conditions much better than his American opponent at the moment.

11:45 - Bertens falls!

TREVISAN 6-4, 6-4 BERTENS
Another upset in the women's singles and it's Kiki Bertens who has fallen! World number 159 Martina Trevisan claims a straight sets victory over the number five seed. The Italian pulled off an incredible lob on match point to get the job done and the women's draw has been blown wide open this morning!

11:20 - Swiatek demolition job on Halep!

HALEP 1-6, 2-6 SWIATEK
Incredible! What an astonishing performance from Swiatek! A year after the teenager was thumped 6-1, 6-0 by Halep in the Roland Garros last 16, Swiatek exacts the perfect revenge by destroying the number one seed 6-1, 6-2. She didn't let her level drop from start to finish. Halep didn't stand a chance.

10:35 - Halep in trouble

HALEP 1-6 SWIATEK
Wow. The 19-year-old takes the first set against the number one seed in just 24 minutes! And what style she did it in! Swiatek struck 16 winners in that set, including one on set point. Halep hasn't had any answers to what she is facing from the young Pole on the other side of the net.

10:00 - Welcome to Day 8!

Good morning and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE coverage of Day 8 at the 2020 French Open. Play has already started on the show courts, with number one seed in the women's singles Simona Halep up against Iga Swiatek. Here are some of the matches to keep an eye on today...
  • Simona Halep v Iga Swiatek
  • Rafael Nadal v Sebastian Korda
  • Sascha Zverev v Jannik Sinner
  • Elina Svitolina v Caroline Garcia
  • Dominic Thiem v Hugo Gaston

22:10 - Collins turns it around!

COLLINS 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 MUGURUZA
Muguruza was up a double break in the deciding set, but in the end the former Roland Garros winner handed it on a plate to Collins who took the opportunity that was presented to her. A double fault brought up two match points and Collins claimed the first one. It's the American who moves into the last 16!

21:20 - Muguruza level

COLLINS 2-6 MUGURUZA (7-5)
Muguruza takes the second set in just 30 minutes to turn this contest around. Some strong serving from the former champion in that set and in the final game. Collins isn't out of this yet, though. Despite the scoreboard in that set, the American was still competitive.

20:40 - Collins first set!

COLLINS 7-5 MUGURUZA
The former Roland Garros champion is in some trouble as Collins takes the first set! A lame forehand into the net from Muguruza handed Collins a couple break points, the first one was saved, but then the Spaniard was broken down at the back of the court and sent a ball long beyond the baseline. Collins screams 'COME ON!'

19:35 - Djokovic through

DJOKOVIC 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 GALAN
The world number one is into the last 16 and he is through in straight sets. Djokovic was incredible in the first set and a half. Then the rain delay seemed to knock him out of his stride, but he still had too much for Galan. That was tricky in places, but Djokovic got the job done.

18:55 - Djokovic in control

DJOKOVIC 6-3 GALAN (6-0)
Djokovic takes the break point opportunity when it comes and the world number one is just one set away from the fourth round. He hammered a forehand winner past Galan on break point, but there's still a sense that the Serbian is playing within himself after the rain delay. Frustrated, even.

18:40 - Roof over on Chatrier

*DJOKOVIC 3-2 GALAN (6-0)
That could have very easily been a double break in this second set, but Djokovic plays one two many drop shots and then Galan clinches the game point at the net. He should try coming to the net more often. He can't continue these baseline exchanges and hope to make an impression.

18:20 - Rain!

PLAY SUSPENDED!
Well, that's peculiar. Djokovic actually had to take matters into his own hands to stop play as rain came pouring down. The court was dangerous and Galan was slipping around the back of the court. The roof is coming over on Court Philippe Chatrier. The two players taking a seat for the time being.

17:55 - Djokovic bagel

DJOKOVIC 6-0 GALAN
A 25-minute opening set and it's a bagel for the world number one. Can anyone stop Djokovic in this sort of form? Everything seems to be in his favour. Heavy courts, minimal fans to wind him up. As long as he doesn't strike any line judges, he should be fine.

17:45 - Kvitova in straights

KVITOVA 7-5, 6-3 FERNANDEZ
It took the number seven seed a while to get going, but Kvitova found her groove towards the end of the first set and never let up. She brought up a break point with an unreturnable backhand down the line and then clinched it with a forehand winner down the other line. Winners all over the place.

17:25 - Khachanov prevails!

GARIN 2-6, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6 KHACHANOV
This was a fight for Khachanov, but last year's Roland Garros quarter finalist prevails and comes through in four sets against Garin. He will play either Djokovic or Ghalan in the fourth round. This has become a favourite tournament of Khachanov's over the last two years.

17:05 - Ferro edges marathon!

FERRO 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-0 TIG
The marathon match on Philippe Chatrier has been settled, with the home hope Ferro coming through with a bagel in the deciding set. That was one of the most entertaining matches we have seen so far at Roland Garros this year. France now has two players in the second week of the women's singles alongside Caroline Garcia.

17:00 - Kvitova fights back!

KVITOVA 7-5 FERNANDEZ
Sensational fight from the number seven seed. Kvitova had to work very hard to take that set, even when she was serving it out. She needed no fewer than five set points, but gets it done with an unreturnable forehand. Fernandez allowed her confidence to dip and that cost her.

16:35 - Dimitrov is through

DIMITROV 6-1, 6-3 CARBALLES BAENA
For the first time in 10 attempts, Grigor Dimitrov is through to the fourth round of the French Open after Roberto Carballes Baena, the conqueror of Denis Shapavalov, is forced to retire through injury. The Bulgarian has found some good form and will take his place in the second week at Roland Garros.

15:20 - Bedene retires

BEDENE RETIRES (1-6, 2-6, 1-3)
Tsitsipas is into the fourth round. Bedene received a medical timeout in the first set and never looked too comfortable out there. The Greek was in great form and will be a real contender to go all the way if he continues playing like this next week. He just had far too much for Bedene.

15:00 - Tsitsipas flying!

BEDENE 2-6 TSITSIPAS (1-6)
Tell you what, Tsitsipas is going to take some beating in this form. The Greek serves it out to love, smashing down an ace after bringing up three set points. It's a long, long way back for Bedene from here. He's been completely out of his depth so far.

14:35 - Jabeur is through!

SABALENKA 7-6(7), 2-6, 6-3 JABEUR
What a match this was on Court 14 and Jabeur is making another incredible run at a Grand Slam! The highlight of the match came at the end of the first set, when Sabalenka fought back, then Jabeur responded with a fightback of her own in the tie break to win it 9-7. Sabalenka won the second set in 19 minutes, but Jabeur picked herself up again and won the deciding set 6-3.

14:25 - Tsitsipas in a hurry

BEDENE 1-6 TSISTIPAS
A 27-minute set for Tsitsipas who has taken a grip of this match. It would have been even quicker than that were it not for a Bedene medical timeout and some troubles from the Greek in serving the set out, but he will be pleased with how he has started this match.

14:00 - Kenin through!

BARA 2-6, 0-6 KENIN
A comprehensive performance from the Australian Open champion who turned up the intensity and tightened up her game midway through the first set and won the next 12 games in a row. Bara had some opportunities on the Kenin serve, but the Romanian was lacking in the big moments and was well beaten. Kenin moves on at Roland Garros.

13:50 - Sabalenka level

SABALENKA 6-2 JABEUR (6-7(7-9))
After a 57-minute opening set, it's a 19-minute second set as Sabalenka levels up. The number eight seed will feel much better about that. We expected this might be one of the more entertaining third round matches and so it has materialised. Down to a deciding set on Court 14.

13:35 - Carreno Buesta through!

BAUTISTA AGUT 4-6, 3-6, 7-5, 4-6 CARRENO BUSTA
Carreno Busta is into the fourth round in four sets against his fellow countryman Bautista Agut. He was the more aggressive player of the two and came back from a break down in the fourth set to edge it. It's Stefanos Tsitsipas up next on Suzanne Lenglet!

13:30 - What a first set!

SABALENKA 6-7 (7-9) JABEUR
Incredible opening set out on Court 14 between the number eight seed Sabalenka and the number 30 seed Jabeur. Jabeur had 40-0 at 6-5, but was then broken and taken to a tie break. Then she found herself 5-1 down in the tie break, but fought back to take it 9-7. An entertaining one!

13:20 - First set Kenin

BARA 2-6 KENIN
It's six games in a row for Kenin and she claims the first set 6-2, although Bara was presented with two break point opportunities as the American attempted to serve it out. The Romanian couldn't take either, though, and Kenin was let off the hook.

12:35 - Berrettini out!

ALTMAIER 6-2, 7-6(7-5), 6-4 BERRETTINI
We have already had a shock at Roland Garros early this afternoon, with number seven seed Matteo Berrettini beaten in straight sets by Austrian qualifier Daniel Altmaier. The Italian was so flat throughout the contest and offered up very little fight as he was eliminated from the tournament in straight sets. What a result for Altmaier. He was so impressive.

12:30 - Welcome to Day 7!

Good afternoon and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE coverage of Day 7 at the French Open. We'll bring you updates of the day's action as it happens at Roland Garros. Here are some of the most note-worthy matches being played today...
  • Irina Bara v Sofia Kenin
  • Aljaz Bedene v Stefanos Tsitsipas
  • Novak Djokovic v Daniel Elahi Galan
  • Danielle Collins v Garbine Muguruza

Zverev sets up Sinner clash

Zverev 6-1, 7-5, *6-3 Cecchinato
It's all over! Zverev is through to the fourth round of the French Open with a convincing straight-sets victory over Marco Cecchinato. The German came through that without any problems and he will face Jannik Sinner in the next round.

Zverev 6-1 7-5 3-1* Cecchinato

Zverev fails to capitalise on four break points and Cecchinato finally holds serve with a drop shot to the German's forehand side which has been causing him a few problems in this set.

Zverev 6-1 7-5 2-0* Cecchinato

Double break point for Zverev with Cecchinato venting his frustration on his side of the court. He plays another unforced error and Zverev is now a break up having won the last six games in a row.

Zverev two sets up

Zverev 6-1 7-5* Cecchinato
Zverev upping the ante as he earns himself two set points. Cecchinato bounces his racket on the clay in frustration.
Cecchinato tries another drop shot which doesn't work as Zverev smashes it back to take the set in 39 minutes. A brilliant response from the German after going a break down!

Zverev 6-1 5-5* Cecchinato

Cecchinato tries a risky drop shot which Zverev returns, the Italian fires wide before smashing a ball into the sponsorboards in frustration. Zverev breaks back and we're back on serve.

Zverev 6-1 *3-4 Cecchinato

Cecchinato with his first break point of the match and he takes it! That was certainly unexpected. He breaks with comfort and now leads the set.

Zverev 6-1 1-1* Cecchinato

Cecchinato happy to get on the scoreboard with a lovely drop shot. He's lost in the first round of 12 of his last 13 Grand Slam appearances, but two years ago the Italian was a French Open semi-finalist. He produced a shock four-sets victory against Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals before losing to Dominic Thiem in the semis.

Zverev 6-1* Cecchinato

Two set points on the Cecchinato serve and Zverev takes it in 23 minutes after the Italian lazily strokes the ball into the net.
So far so good for the German sixth seed.

Zverev 3-0* Cecchinato

Zverev double breaks with a smash and he's in firm control against Cecchinato who had to battle through qualifying to get to this point.

Zverev 1-0* Cecchinato

Zverev breaks the Italian just three minutes in under the lights at Suzanne Lenglen.

Nadal storms into second week

Result: Nadal 6-1 6-4 *6-0 Travaglia
And there we have it. Nadal seals it with a volley and is into the second week with an easy win over Travaglia, who showed great heart, in just one hour and 35 minutes.

Wawrinka is out!

Unbelievable stuff out on Suzanne Lenglen as former champion Stanislas Wawrinka loses to the unseeded 20-year-old wildcard Hugo Gaston 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 in three hours and ten minutes.
An incredible moment for the Frenchman in front of the home support and he's unsurprisingly in tears at the end of it. They are all singing the 239-seed's name and he will now face Dominic Thiem in the next round.
Sensational!

Nadal 6-1 6-4 1-0* Travaglia

Wow. Travaglia looked like he would save that break point but he smashes what should have been a winner, with Nadal firmly on the back foot, into the net. Nadal in cruise control.

So this happened

Nadal 6-1 *6-4 Travaglia

Triple set point and Nadal wins the opening two sets in 69 minutes. Business as usual for Rafa. Travaglia will have to come up with something drastic to turn this around.

Nadal 6-1 4-3* Travaglia

Nadal is forcing Travaglia onto his backhand with regularity and it's paying off. With two break points the Spaniard goes in front in this second set after an Travaglia unforced error.

Nadal easily takes first set - *6-1 Travaglia

Triple set point for an on-fire Nadal and he takes it in 23 minutes. Travaglia has no answers to the 12-time French Open winner's ruthlessness right now.

Nadal 5-1* Travaglia

Nadal is outclassing his opponent here. He breaks to love with ease.

Nadal 2-0* Travaglia

A very fast start from Nadal! He has not lost a point yet as he breaks the Travaglia serve at the first time of asking.

Nadal *1-0 Travaglia

Nadal with trademark forehand down the line hands the Spaniard a love service game to kick things off on Philippe-Chatrier where we appear to have 1,000 people in attendance.

Nadal looking to avoid an upset

It's Rafael Nadal v Stefano Travaglia coming up on Philippe-Chatrier!
Can unseeded Italian Travaglia, who knocked out Kei Nishikori in the previous round in five sets, cause an almighty upset against 12-time French Open winner? That, we will find out...
Highlights of Travaglia's huge win over Nishikori 👇

Garcia sees off Mertens

The rain has caused plenty of disruption today but it has not stopped an ecstatic Caroline Garcia from beating Elise Mertens 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 with her sixth match point on Philippe-Chatrier.
It was quite the turnaround from the Frenchwoman after a tricky first set in front of 1,000 spectators.
Up next: Rafael Nadal v Stefano Travaglia

This lob from Ruud was naughty

It's raining on Suzanne Lenglen

Stanislas Wawrinka vs 20-year-old Hugo Gaston - which is currently 6-2, 3-6, 2-2 - has stopped because of rain.
Alex Zverev v Marco Cecchinato looks to be pushed back a bit for now.
Zverev made hard work of his second round match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert which went the distance.

Halep storms through

Result: Halep 6-0 6-1* Anisimova
Just 52 minutes in and Halep has a match point but she fires long.
A second opportunity comes around as Anisimova belts a forehand into the tramlines. The American lofts a short shot wide and Halep is through to the fourth round in under an hour.

Halep on verge of victory - 6-0, 4-1*

Anisimova floats a flaky forehand into the tramlines and Halep breaks again to move within two games of a place in the fourth round.

Halep breaks again - 6-0 2-1* Anisimova

Another Anisimova unforced error and Halep goes a break ahead at the third time of asking.

Halep a set up - *6-0 Anisimova

Halep hardly has to break a sweat as she takes the first set in 23 minutes after Anisimova hits a weak backhand into the net on the Romanian's first set point.

Halep cruising - 5-0* Anisimova

Halep will serve for the first set after winning four points in a row on the Anisimova serve. The 25th seed has not really got going this afternoon.

Halep 3-0* Anisimova

Anisimova hits an easy backhand into the net and she is seething with herself after her seventh unforced error.
Anisimova then proceeds to hit a Halep break point into the net and the Romanian takes a comfortable early lead.

Halep 1-0* Anisimova

A double break point for Halep already and the Romanian breaks in the first game after Anisimova double faults on the second one!
Anisimova knocked Halep out of the French Open last year. The American played a brilliant match in her 6-2, 6-4 quarter-final victory.

Halep v Anisimova on NOW!

A reminder you can watch this one live on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport Player or follow live text updates on the Eurosport website and app.

Thiem into the fourth round

Result: Thiem 6-4, 6-3 *6-1 Ruud
TWO match points for Thiem. He overcooks a lob on the first one. But the second time he crashes down an ace and he is comfortably though to the fourth round for the fifth year in a row.

Thiem 6-4, 6-3 5-1* Ruud

A brilliant one-handed backhand down the line encourages a roar from the few in attendance inside Philippe-Chatrier. Thiem breaks again and just a game away from wrapping up this contest.

Thiem on the march - 6-4, 6-3 3-1* Ruud

Thiem is wearing Ruud down and he's forced another break of serve. The 27-year-old can see the imaginary finish line...

Here is that disgusting hot dog lob from earlier

Thiem two sets up - 6-4 6-3* Ruud

A ferocious backhand from Thiem down the line is too much for Ruud and he's got the two-set lead. Thiem not at his best today but he's delivering when he needs to.

Thiem 6-4 *3-1 Ruud

A filthy hot dog lob hands Ruud two break points but he fails to capitalise and remonstrates with himself when the game swings Thiem's way.
The Austrian produces four points in a row and then seals the game with an ace.

Thiem 6-4 1-0* Ruud

Ruud disputes an umpire call about a different mark to the one he was looking at.
He recovers but is visibly riled up after the incident. Thiem wins the sixth break point of the eight-minute game after Ruud slices into the net.
The Norwegian gives the umpire a stern look as he returns to his chair.

Thiem wins the first set - Thiem *6-4 Ruud

A Ruud awakening... very nice.
Thiem joyfully clenches his fist as he seals an absolutely gruelling opening set in 58 minutes.

Better from Thiem - Thiem 4-3 Ruud*

Much faster now with Thiem giving himself three break points and he takes the first one thanks to a Ruud unforced error.

Thiem *3-3 Ruud

The ten-minute game comes to a close. Thiem saves three break points and eventually levels up. Physically demanding stuff indeed.

Thiem breaks back - Thiem 2-3* Ruud

Thiem wakes up and responds in brutal fashion. He takes the second of his three break points as Ruud awkwardly hits into the net. Back on serve.

Ruud a break up - Thiem *1-3 Ruud

Thiem smashes a forehand into the trams and Ruud breaks. The Norwegian has been giving the Austrian problems and is not afraid of a baseline battle.

Thiem 0-1* Ruud

Plenty of lengthy rallies already but Ruud gets on the scoreboard with his opening service game after the Austrian hits long.

10:00 - Lots of rain today

But never you mind because Philippe-Chatrier now has a roof!
Here are the key matches today with just Zverev on Court Suzanne-Lenglen so rain may affect that one.
  • Dominic Thiem v Casper Ruud
  • Simona Halep v Amanda Anisimova
  • Alex Zverev v Marco Cecchinato
  • Rafael Nadal v Stefano Travaglia
So first up it is the number three seed Dominic Thiem, who has admitted this week he likes playing in the dank conditions, against Norwegian claycourt specialist Casper Ruud.

17:05 - Tsitsipas in three

CUEVAS 1-6, 4-6, 2-6 TSITSIPAS
A very routine victory for Tsitsipas as he moves into the third round. We expected this match would be am entertaining one after the encounter between these two in Hamburg last week, but it never really materialised. After that marathon second round match, this is exactly what Tsitsipas needed. He was far too good for Cuevas.

16:50 - Muguruza is through

PLISKOVA 3-6, 2-6 MUGURUZA
A comprehensive victory for the former French Open champion, 6-3, 6-2. Muguruza brought up three match points with an ace down the T and then claimed the first of them with a clean forehand winner, and that sums up how this match went for the number 11 seed who is looking strong.

16:40 - Tsitsipas two sets up

CUEVAS 4-6 TSITSIPAS (1-6)
A much competitive second set, but after just over an hour Tsitsipas is now two sets to the good. The Greek got a little edgy midway through that service game, but found some first serves and some good backhand hitting from the baseline and got the job done. He's one set away.

16:10 - Muguruza takes first set

PLISKOVA 3-6 MUGURUZA
The number 11 seed and former French Open champion Muguruza claims the first set and does it in spectacular style with a stunning lob over Pliskova who has been out-powered and out-classed so far.

16:00 - Tsitsipas on his way

CUEVAS 1-6 TSITSIPAS
It's a 23-minute first set for Tsitsipas who has settled in very nicely here. This has the potential to be an entertaining match-up, as it was last week in Hamburg, but the Greek is so far just doing too many things better than his Argentine opponent.

15:20 - Shapovalov out!

SHAPOVALOV 5-7, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-8 CARBALLES BAENA
Shapovalov is out of the French Open! The young Canadian won the fourth set to force a deciding set, he had the opportunity to serve it out TWICE and then allowed Carballes Baena to take his first match point! What a disappointing result for Shapovalov who must have fancied his chances of making a deep run at Roland Garros this year.

15:10 - Djokovic is through

DJOKOVIC 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 BERANKIS
The demolition job is complete in just one hour and 23 minutes. Berankis was clearly struggling with some sort of injury, but the Lithuanian couldn't get anywhere near Djokovic. This had to be one of his quickest victories at Roland Garros and into the third round he strolls.

14:40 - Djokovic two sets up

DJOKOVIC 6-2 BERANKIS (6-1)
Two sets in 53 minutes for the world number one and you'd have to think Djokovic is as good as into the third round from this position. Berankis is taking a MTO at the end of the second set. The Lithuanian just hasn't been able to engage Djokovic in any way.

14:10 - Djokovic up and running

DJOKOVIC 6-1 BERANKIS
A 22-minute set from Djokovic. The world number one is in complete control and there was nothing Berankis could do to keep him in check. This could be a rather swift encounter if Djokovic manages to keep up this standard.

14:05 - Going the distance!

SHAPOVALOV 6-3 CARBALLES BAENA (5-7, 7-6, 3-6)
This match is going the distance as Shapovalov takes the fourth set 6-3. That was a much more assured and consistent set from the young Canadian. It's now a one-set shootout on Suzanne Lenglen for a place in the Roland Garros third round. Shapovalov has the momentum.

13:40 - Shapovalov trailing!

SHAPOVALOV 3-6 CARBALLES BAENA (5-7, 7-6)
It seemed that the Canadian had turned the tide of this match by winning the tie break at the end of the second set, but Shapovalov is in trouble again after dropping the third set. He's going to have to go the full distance to beat Carballes Baena and make the third round at Roland Garros.

13:30 - Kenin is through

BOGDAN 6-3, 3-6, 2-6 KENIN
Kenin is into the third round of the French Open, but she had to work for that win. The American got the job done with a forehand winner which caught the edge of the line. It took Kenin a while to get going, with Bogdan in control for much of the contest, but the Australian Open upped her intensity and turned the screw after that.

12:10 - Kenin levels up

BOGDAN 3-6, 6-3 KENIN
Much, much better from Kenin towards the end of that second set. The Australian Open champion has found her forehand and that wins her so many points. As well as Bogdan has played, Kenin should win this if she can keep up this sort of consistency over more than just a handful of games.

12:10 - Another seed teetering?

BOGDAN 6-3 KENIN
Bogdan pulls off her first ace of the match to secure the first set 6-3! Kenin quickly needs to tighten up her game here. There have been too many unforced errors and too many double faults. Bogdan started well, but generally hasn't had to be that good to earn this position.

11:40 - Kvitova through!

KVITOVA 6-3, 6-3 PAOLINI
An assured performance from the number seven seed and Kvitova is into the third round. Paolini stuck with Kvitova admirably for much of the match, but the Czech had too much for her opponents in the big moments. She'll be happy with that staright sets victory.

11:30 - Shapovalov in trouble

SHAPOVALOV 5-7 CARBALLES BAENA
The number nine seed is in a spot of trouble on Suzanne-Lenglen. Shapovalov has lost the first set 7-5 to Carballes Baena. The young Canadian was expected to make a good run in this tournament and so he has some work to do to turn this around. This is certainly one to watch. Upset alert!

11:15 - Number two seed falls!

OSTAPENKO 6-4, 6-2 PLISKOVA
The number two seed is out of Roland Garros. What an excellent performance from Ostapenko. The former French Open champion had a good game plan and executed it well with plenty of variety and winners. That has to be one of the best performances of the Latvian's career!

10:45 - Ostapenko up a set!

OSTAPENKO 6-4 PLISKOVA
The Latvian clinches the first set. It's been a topsy turvy encounter so far with both players struggling to keep hold of their serve, but Ostapenko just managed to stay steadier. Pliskova gave up that game on game point with a wild inside out forehand into the tramlines and that sums up her match so far.
