Daniil Medvedev produced a serving masterclass as he beat fellow Russian Andrey Rublev in straight sets to reach the US Open semi-finals.
Last year’s beaten finalist didn’t face a single break point as he won 7-6(6), 6-3, 7-6(5), having saved three set points in the opening set.
The third seed, who took a medical timeout for a shoulder issue at the end of the third set, will face Dominic Thiem or Alex de Minaur in the last four.
"It was tough at the end,” said Medvedev. "That's why for the first time in maybe a year I actually celebrated that win. I felt I could get in trouble. It was a really tough match. Andrey was playing unbelievable.”
Until taking a medical timeout late in the third set for a shoulder set, Medvedev looked in command, particularly on serve as Rublev failed to create a single break point.

Daniil Medvedev: My idol? I always wanted to be myself

Rublev did have a chance in the opening tie-break, though, as he let slip a 6-3 lead.
The 10th seed threw his racquet – and moments later a banana - down in frustration after dropping the set, and Medvedev made matters worse for his compatriot when he broke in the second set.
Neither player created many opportunities against the serve in the third set but it was Medvedev who battled through after a medical timeout with a couple of crucial winners in the tie-break.
