Murray, the world number two, faces the Czech in his first match, while world number one Novak Djokovic plays Jerzy Janowicz.
Murray and Djokovic will both have breathed a sigh of relief when they saw that they have avoided both Rafa Nadal and resurgent Argentine Juan Martin del Potro in their quarter-finals.
Should all go to expectations and rankings, Djokovic seems likely to face former champion Marin Cilic in the quarter-finals, with the winner to play either Nadal or Milos Raonic in the last four. Richard Gasquet or John Isner will both fancy their chances of taking Djokovic down even before he reaches the final eight, however: the two meet in the third round, with the winner playing the Serb in round four.
Raonic has a particularly tough route to get as far as the last eight: the Canadian Wimbledon finalist takes on the flamboyant Dustin Brown in his opening match, and then equally flamboyant Frenchman Gael Monfils in the fourth round.
Del Potro, by contrast, has an easier draw than any world number 142 has a right to expect: he could have drawn anyone in the opening match, but won't face a world top eight player until the second week.
In the other half of the draw Murray is in line for a last-eight encounter with former finalist Kei Nishikori; the winner of that match would then probably play either Dominic Thiem or the winner of a potential Del Potro v Stan Wawrinka fourth round match.
Two big names are missing from the draw, however: Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych. Federer has been struggling all season with a knee injury while Berdych has suffered a bout of appendicitis which has ruled him out of the year's final Grand Slam.
