Novak Djokovic showed real class as he comforted his opponent Juan Martin Del Potro, who was left in tears after defeat in the US Open final.
Djokovic claimed his second Grand Slam in succession and 14th in his illustrious career with a 6-3 7-6 6-3 victory at Flushing Meadows.
The 31-year-old, who triumphed in New York in 2011 and 2015, sealed his third title at the final Slam of the year with a hard-earned straight-sets win over the Argentine.
The famously emotional Del Potro could not contain his emotions as he sat in his chair after the match and Djokovic made a point of consoling him.
The pair, who are great friends on the ATP Tour, shared other special moments together after the match with Del Potro having made his first Grand Slam final since winning in New York back in 2009.
Remarkably given he began the season with elbow surgery following a hugely frustrating Australian Open, the Serb has now won three of his last four events including back-to-back majors.
