DJOKOVIC 1-2 KYRGIOS
Kyrgios produces one of the most casually brilliant winners of the tournament that curves into the corner of Nole’s left-hand wing. Unfortunately for the Aussie that’s as good as it gets as the former world No.1 crunches through a succession of cheap points to nudge the board once more.
DJOKOVIC 1-1 KYRGIOS
Well, that didn’t take long! We are treated to the full repertoire from Nick as he showcases some wonderful defence, real tennis IQ at the net as well as an aggressive second serve ace. That’s the good part. The bad comes with an underarm serve that allows Djoker to make inroads on a 40-0 deficit before unloading a crisp backhand up the line. The Aussie is then too casual when he expects his opponent’s block to land wide and is fortunate that the six-time champion gets his follow-up drop shot all wrong.
DJOKOVIC 1-0 KYRGIOS
It was interesting that Kyrgios elected to receive first. One would expect him to want to try and secure the scoreboard advantage early on in the biggest match of his life.
Djokovic looks equally edgy and opens with a double fault, but Kyrgios can’t make a return at 30-30 and then arrows a backhand long.
