GAME, SET AND MATCH! - WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 6-4 MCHALE. A cracker of match ends with a trio of aces as Serena serves it out to love after two hours and 29 minutes. It's hard lines for McHale who gave it everything and had her chances.

-

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 5-4 MCHALE. Another epic service game for Christina - but this time she can't deny the world number one. She wins the point of the match at 15-30 to stop Serena making an early dent but can't keep pulling off the recovery from deuce. She saves one BP but succumbs on the second. Serena will now serve for the match.

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 4-4 MCHALE. It's a hold to 15 that concludes with a miscued sliced dropshot. Looks good, but did she mean it? I'm thinking miscue...

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 3-4 MCHALE. Well ,well, well. McHale keeps digging deep into her reserves. She lets 40-15 slip to deuce and comes under pressure. She saves a BP as the pair exchange blows before she once again comes through.

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 3-3 MCHALE. Serena levels it up. It's an intriguing decider this. You expect Serena will win, but...

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 2-3 MCHALE. What a hold! McHale fights back from triple break point down to go through the mill at countless deuces before finally pulling off the great escape. Serena will wonder how that got away from her. Not for the first time in this match either.

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 2-2 MCHALE. Serena romps to a love game. Crisis averted?

-

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 1-2 MCHALE. A disaster for Christina. At 40-15 she looks set to consolidate but the nerves get to her. The errors pile up and after two double faults she effectively hands the break back to the world number one.

-

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 0-2 MCHALE. Wow! McHale stuns Centre Court with some wonderful shot-making to snare the breakthrough in the early stages of this decider. Shock still on?

WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 0-1 MCHALE. Solid start for Christina as she keeps her cool to keep Serena at arm's length and take the opener to 30.

-

SET! - WILLIAMS 6-7 6-2 MCHALE. A fine recovery from Serena after losing that opener. We head into a decider after she served it out from deuce on a second set point following a sixth double fault on the first.

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 5-2 MCHALE. Good spirit from Christina. She is 15-30 down but rallies to get another game on the board. Over to Serena for the serve out question.

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 5-1 MCHALE. An eighth ace of the match helps Serena make it five games on the spin as she holds to 30. This set is over bar the shouting. McHale may as well conserve energy for the decider.

-

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 6-7 4-1 MCHALE. Four in a row and double break for Serena. McHale saves one BP but slams straight into the net on the next to all but hand the second set to the world number one.

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 3-1 MCHALE. Serena has channeled that aggression in the right way. She consolidates with aplomb and looks to have wrestled some of the positivity out of McHale.

-

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 6-7 2-1 MCHALE. And there it is. Serena's familiar charge sees her break to 30 with a lovely backhand crosscourt winner to wrongfoot McHale.

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 1-1 MCHALE. Serena back on track. She's been here plenty of times before and come away with the victory in a decider.

-

WILLIAMS 6-7 0-1 MCHALE. Christina looking to take advantage of Serena's lack of focus. She takes the opener on serve and has the scoreboard advantage to go with that one-set lead.

-

TIE BREAK! - WILLIAMS 6-7 MCHALE. The underdog takes it! An exhilarating TB sees Serena save set point before eventually succumbing 9-7. she takes a seat and smashes her racket. Not happy, but McHale deserves it for the fight she put into it. she's showed no fear out there.

-

TIE BREAK! - WILLIAMS 6-6 MCHALE. Christina is brave and deservedly holds to 15 to secure a TB. It's the least she deserves after an aggressive and commendable effort in this set.

-

WILLIAMS 6-5 MCHALE. A simple and effective hold to 15 for Serena. She's got a TB minimum from here. More heat for McHale to deal with next.

-

WILLIAMS 5-5 MCHALE. Massive hold for McHale. Serena looks a different player following the rain break for the roof. She tees up BP at 30-40 and thinks she has the set in the bag when Christina's drive to the baseline is called long. She challenges and gets to replay the point as Hawkeye judges it in by the smallest of margins. Both players exchange smiles before McHale produces a big serve to hit deuce. The underdog doesn't let the reprieve go and pulls level. It will be vital if she is to produce a shock here.

-
-
-

WILLIAMS 5-4 MCHALE. Business-like from Serena. She comes out at 15-0 and storms through the next three points to move ahead on the board. Over to McHale to serve to stay in it after being in front for so long.

-

The players are back on court and will be back underway with Serena serving at 4-4 and 15-0 up.

-
-

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 4-4 MCHALE. Serena strikes! McHale's HQ play was always going to be tough to sustain and she finally buckles. She begins to serve at 15-0 in the next game, but the rain is falling and the roof will be closed. PLAY SUSPENDED.

-

WILLIAMS 3-4 MCHALE. Serena stays in touch. McHale playing so well but you fancy this set could yet have a twist in it.

-

Deja vu?

-

WILLIAMS 2-4 MCHALE. Massive hold for McHale. The American underdog looks in deep trouble at triple break point, but she rallies brilliantly to force deuce before going on to stun Serena with the hold. You have to take your hat off to Christina, she's been superb so far. Its; nothing to do with Serena being sluggish.

-

WILLIAMS 2-3 MCHALE. Serena fighting so hard just to keep a free hitting McHale at bay. Christina has two BPs but can't quite get it done. Will she regret the missed opportunities?

-

WILLIAMS 1-3 MCHALE. More great play from Christina as she shows superb court coverage to race into the net to pick up a dropshot and touch home a winner to take the game to 30.

-

WILLIAMS 1-2 MCHALE. An important hold for Serena as she again faces BPs. The World number one refuses to budge this time and gets on the board from deuce. It's not that Serena is sluggish, you have to say McHale has been hugely impressive and has risen to this challenge. Maintaining such a level will be difficult though.

-

WILLIAMS 0-2 MCHALE. That is some hold from McHale. The underdog bats off four BPs as Serena piles on the pressure. It's an epic game but one that a first ace and some big hitting help her secure.

-
-

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 0-1 MCHALE.  A sloppy start from Serena or bold, aggressive play from Christina? It's a bit of both. The world number one lashes down an ace to move up 40-30 but McHale goes on the attack and scorches a smart winner to the right flank before benefitting from miscues from Serena to get off to the perfect beginning.

-

Serena to serve first.

-
