The British number one had been given a bye through the first round, but showed no signs of rustiness when putting in a dominant display on Tuesday, running out a 6-1 6-3 winner to set up a clash with Caroline Wozniacki.
Speaking after the match, Konta said:
I haven't played Caroline in some time so I am looking forward to that battle. She is a Grand Slam champion this year. I am happy with how I played here, I knew Aleksandra would be difficult to face so I was glad I was able to keep my focus.
Konta started brightly, breaking Krunic early in the first set before breaking again to put herself in firm control of the opening stanza - much to the delight of a partisan crowd at Devonshire Park.
A service game to love closed out the first set and offered more encouraging signs for Konta with just a week to go before Wimbledon.
Krunic required medical treatment in the break between sets, but was much improved in the second and held her own until the fifth game, when Konta broke to send her on the way to a richly deserved victory.
Konta's win gave the British crowd something to cheer after wildcard Harriet Dart disappointed in her 6-3 6-4 defeat to Anastasija Sevastova earlier in the day.
